Macleans College music ensembles achieved outstanding results at this year’s KBB Music Festival.

The Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band received gold awards, while the Chamber Orchestra, Sinfonietta and Symphonic Bands earned silver awards. The Concert Band also performed at the Gala Concert.

Five years after Macleans College opened its doors, 1984 marked a special milestone. The school became complete for the first time, with students across every year level from third to seventh form.

More than $10,000 has been raised for the Child Cancer Foundation following an inspiring 5 km charity run by Te Kanawa House students at Macleans College.

The event brought the Te Kanawa House community together in a fantastic display of determination, teamwork and generosity.

Mud, steep terrain and cold temperatures tested Macleans College’s Year 11 Challenge students during a demanding two day expedition to Crosbies Hut.

Covering 36 kilometres through the Coromandel Peninsula, the students showed determination and teamwork to complete what was described as their most challenging hike to date.

Seven seconds to solve a Rubik’s Cube, mathematical scavenger hunts, cake decorating, codebreaking and Mathex competitions made National Maths Week an exciting celebration at Macleans College.

The Macleans College Premier Squash teams recently competed at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Squash Championships in Christchurch, joining around 60 schools at the national event.

With both teams facing strong competition, the championships provided a valuable opportunity to compete at the highest level and put their season-long preparation into practice.

Macleans College’s top Valorant team has continued its impressive run, finishing second at the New Zealand High School Esports Clash at the University of Waikato.

Following a successful Term 2 online campaign, the team secured a place in the national final after overcoming an early setback. They faced Westlake Boys High School in a closely contested final, ultimately finishing second overall.

These students, hailing from diverse countries such as Argentina, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Spain, Italy, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, are eager to immerse themselves in New Zealand life and become a cherished part of a local household.

Macleans College’s Junior Adventure Race team took on a demanding regional qualifier, tackling mountain biking, water challenges and navigation in challenging winter conditions.

With most of the team competing for the first time, the experience provided valuable development and a strong foundation for future competitions.
