Mālō e lelei and welcome to Tongan Language week. The Tongan language is one of the many languages The Wildlings observe as part of Pacific Language weeks. Given the diverse cultures of those living in Aotearoa, it is important that we acknowledge these weeks, so tamariki can see that people both see and value their culture.

Fo’i To’o, is a lovely Tongan song about the life of a clam shell. Enjoying songs like this, is an easy way families can to bring the Tongan language into the home.

Kia orana and welcome to Cook Island Language Week. The Wildlings understand children's cultural identity is an important part of their growth. It is important for us that they feel that their culture is seen, understood, and celebrated.

By bringing Cook Island culture into homes, through songs, using simple words, and activities, educators help tamariki learn about one of the many cultures of those living in Aotearoa. The Cook Island’s Welcome Song is a great song to introduce simple phrases from one of the many Pacific languages. We celebrate language weeks, to help build children's understanding of the different cultures that help build Aotearoa’s multicultural fabric.

Today is International Friendship Day. Friendship is an important part of a child’s social development, which is why it’s an important part of what The Wildlings In-Home Childcare are focusing on this term. Through engaging with their peers, tamariki grow their social confidence and form friendships with others, and through play and games, children learn how to engage with other children, take turns, which helps to build friendships between children.

It is equally important for our educators, being able to engage with other people with similar jobs and values, and receive peer support from likeminded individuals. This is why The Wildlings holds regular playgroups, where tamariki and Educators alike, can meet new people and make new friends. So on this years international day of friendship, we ask, what does friendship mean to you?

Ever wanted to learn about homebased childcare, or are you already caring for whānau? Then come to the next Mindful Movement for Mana playgroup, held on Thursday 30th June, 10am – 10.30am at Takanini Library. Whaea Laura will be there to answer any questions you may have about becoming a homebased educator. The Wildlings educators often bring tamariki to events such as this, as the children love Whaea Katie and the physical activities and songs in the session.
