We're excited to launch the Uplands Book Club ✨
Stories are a big part of life at kindy, helping children build language, literacy, creativity and a love of learning.
Every month we'll be sharing the books that are capturing the imaginations of our tamariki, inspiring discussion, laughter, learning and plenty of requests for "just one more story."
Here’s this month's Uplands Book Club picks – happy reading!
• The Big Book of Bugs by is a beautifully illustrated, informative book that introduces children to bugs that creep, crawl, bite, and fly.
• Matariki by Sharon Holt sees the whanau wake at dawn to see the Matariki star cluster and visitors arrive for a traditional Matariki feast.
• The Fierce Little Woman and the Wicked Pirate by Joy Cowley Gecko Press is a tale of independence and family with a strong female lead and a pirate with a sensitive side.

Looking for a kindergarten that nurtures curious minds?
Uplands Kindergarten is now open from 8am–4pm, offering families greater flexibility while continuing to provide the warm, caring environment we're known for.
Alongside strong relationships and child-led learning, we place a special emphasis on STEAM experiences, science, discovery and exploration, helping children build confidence, creativity and critical thinking skills from an early age.
We welcome children aged 2–5 years, and with limited spaces currently available, now is a great time to discover what makes Uplands special.
Call to book a visit, we'd love to meet your family and show you around! (09)5245839

Today our tamariki enjoyed a special trip to Four Square Remuera as part of our “Little Neighbours” program.
Buying ingredients to make pizza back at kindergarten, gives children the opportunity to build confidence, learn early maths concepts like counting money and practice social skills while connecting with our lovely neighbours in the community.
Nga mihi nui to Four Square Remuera for welcoming us and supporting our tamariki to learn through authentic experiences.

The anticipation of our butterflies hatching has sparked lots of creativity at Uplands.
As the children carefully observe the changes happening in the chrysalises, they’ve also been busy creating beautiful butterfly-inspired artwork throughout the kindy, bringing their curiosity, ideas and excitement to life through art.

We love making the most of sunny days with small group trips to the park.
These outings are always a highlight for our tamariki, providing opportunities for real world observation and hands on learning while connecting with their friends and wider community.
Getting out on regular excursions is something we really value at Uplands, helping children build their confidence, independence and friendships.

Starting school is a big milestone for children and families.
In our latest blog, we share how school readiness is so much more than knowing letters and numbers – a successful start to school is built on children’s dispositions.
👉 Read more about how we support the building of these skills at Uplands Kindergarten, along with practical ways families can help make the transition feel smooth and positive.

The anticipation is building at Uplands as we wait for our caterpillars to hatch.
Creating a prediction calendar has encouraged the children to closely observe every small change, asking thoughtful questions about the chrysalis and what the spots might mean. It’s been a fantastic opportunity for curiosity, problem-solving and scientific exploration.
Follow along to see if our tamariki’s predictions are correct!
