✨🌟 Matariki Whānau Evening 🌟✨
Last month we celebrated a special evening celebrating Matariki with our tamariki and whānau! The tamariki have been learning about the nine stars of Matariki through art, storytelling, music, and hands-on experiences. A highlight was their Matariki performance, where they shared their learning with confidence and joy.

Thank you for the delicious kai and to all our parents and whānau for joining us. Your support means so much and made the evening truly special. We look forward to celebrating again next year.

Matariki reminds us to reflect, celebrate, and look ahead. It was wonderful to come together as a community.
Ngā mihi nui to everyone who helped make this celebration so memorable.

Scoop, Pour, Explore!

Sandpit play is one of childhood’s greatest joys and there’s so much learning happening amongst all that digging, scooping and pouring!

Exploring with sand provides a wonderful sensory experience while helping tamariki develop fine motor skills, concentration and persistence, communication, problem-solving and social skills. As they experiment, create and play alongside others, they’re also discovering early maths and science concepts such as volume, cause and effect, and how things move.

Kia ora Co Kids whānau,

As part of our Local Curriculum, some of our preschoolers enjoyed a wonderful spontaneous visit to Miriam Corban Retirement Village, continuing to strengthen our connection with our local community.

Our Easter and Mother’s Day visits were filled with smiles and kindness. The children loved travelling together in the taxi van, spotting familiar buildings and shops along the way before sharing a special performance with the residents. They proudly presented their handmade cards and delicious baked cookies, spreading joy through simple acts of kindness and generosity.

There were many special moments, including reading books together in the library and meeting the village’s friendly pet budgie. These meaningful experiences help our tamariki develop empathy, confidence, and a sense of belonging as they build relationships within our wider community.

Thank you Co Kids Management for supporting us with these Spontaneous trips to give our tamariki authentic learning experiences and to everyone at Miriam Corban Retirement Village for your warm welcome. We are already looking forward to visiting again soon!

Kia ora Co Kids whānau,

We took time to remember and reflect on Anzac Day with our tamariki.

Through meaningful and creative experiences, the children made beautiful wreaths, poppies, and medals, and painted thoughtful pictures of a bugle. We listened to Anzac Ted, Anzac Dog, and The Last Post, helping us gently explore the meaning of this important day.

We also shared the poem Red Poppy, sparking conversations about remembrance and why we wear poppies. One special moment was when a child shared about his Great great uncle who fell in battle, explaining that this is why he wore his poppy sticker. It was a powerful reminder of how even our youngest learners can begin to understand the importance of honouring those who served.

Lest we forget❤️

As part of our Transition to School programme, a small group of tamariki had the wonderful opportunity to visit Henderson North School. We were warmly welcomed by the Deputy Principal and began our visit with a wave to the friendly students in the library.

The children were excited to explore the school grounds, noticing the big swimming pool and playground before heading into the classroom. Inside, we met Whaea Mandy and even saw a familiar friend who had just started their school journey!

The classroom was full of engaging resources, and the children quickly immersed themselves in play. The kitchen area was a favourite, where they enjoyed pretending to prepare and cook food. There were also opportunities for drawing and writing on the whiteboard, sparking creativity and confidence.

A special highlight was when one of our children bravely stood up in front of the class to learn a new karakia, supported by the VIP. Ka mau te wehi!

We then shared morning tea together and explored the playground, gaining a real sense of what school life is like.

What an amazing and meaningful experience for our tamariki as they prepare for their next big step. It won’t be long before they begin their school journey!

A heartfelt thank you to Henderson North School for your warm welcome and for taking the time to show us around.
