This week, our tamariki and kaiako had so much fun refreshing our worm farm; giving our worms a fresh new home filled with rich soil, food scraps, and lots of care!

Through these hands-on experiences, tamariki are learning about sustainability, the natural cycle of composting, and the important role worms play in caring for our whenua. It’s a wonderful way to nurture kaitiakitanga and build an understanding of how we can care for Papatūānuku together.

There was plenty of curiosity, excitement, and wonder as little hands explored and discovered the busy world beneath the soil. Brave hands holding onto our wriggly worms!

It was so special to see our tamariki and kaiako dressed in pink today as we came together to support kindness, inclusion, and aroha for one another! Throughout the day, our centre was filled with pink-themed activities, laughter, creativity, and meaningful conversations about caring for others and helping everyone feel safe, valued, and included.

These moments help nurture whanaungatanga and remind us of the importance of kindness in our everyday interactions, big and small 💕

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Natural Steps!

Last week, our Centre was filled with love, laughter, and special moments as we celebrated the incredible mums and mother figures within our whānau community.

Throughout last week, our tamariki enjoyed taking part in Mother’s Day events, sharing meaningful experiences together, and creating thoughtful keepsakes to show their love and appreciation. From little hands carefully crafting treasures to moments of connection and joy, it was a beautiful reminder of the strong bonds that surround our tamariki each day.

We feel so grateful to be part of such a caring and supportive community, and we hope all our Mums felt celebrated and appreciated for all that they do!

Wishing all our wonderful whānau a love-filled Mother’s Day! ♡

Teacher Appreciation Week 🤍

This week, we celebrate and acknowledge the incredible kaiako who nurture, guide, encourage, and care for our tamariki each and every day 🌿

Behind every thoughtful environment, comforting cuddle, meaningful learning experience, and moment of wonder is a team of passionate teachers who pour so much of themselves into the lives of tamariki and whānau.

We are deeply grateful for the aroha, patience, creativity, and dedication our kaiako bring into our centre every day. The relationships they build and the care they show help create a strong sense of belonging for all tamariki within our learning community.

Ngā mihi nui to our amazing kaiako this Teacher Appreciation Week ♡

Over the past two weeks, Natural Steps has been filled with wonder, excitement, and gentle care as we welcomed Living Eggs into our learning environment!

Together, our tamariki observed 10 eggs hatch into fluffy chicks - a truly special experience that sparked curiosity, awe, and meaningful conversations about the life cycle and the growth of living things.

Through watching, waiting, and caring for the chicks each day, tamariki developed a deeper understanding of responsibility, empathy, and kaitiakitanga. From noticing tiny changes to learning how to handle the chicks gently and respectfully, these hands-on experiences brought learning to life in such meaningful ways.

Moments like these nurture curiosity and invite tamariki to slow down, observe closely, and build connections with the natural world around them ♡

What a beautiful journey it has been to watch new life unfold together.

Our Centre philosophy is deeply rooted in the principles of the Reggio Emilia approach 🌿

From our nursery through to our preschool room, tamariki are seen as capable, curious learners, with each stage of their journey honored and supported. We place great value on the process of learning, where exploration, creativity, and discovery unfold naturally through play.

Rather than focusing on outcomes, we embrace the moments in between - the thinking, the wondering, the revisiting of ideas. It is here that rich learning lives.

Through thoughtfully prepared environments and responsive relationships, tamariki are given the time and space to explore, express, and make meaning of the world around them.
