Yakina West African inspired Drum and Dance is an Auckland based community of dancers and drummers. We offer community dance classes with live drumming and are available for dance workshops. We draw our inspiration from rhythms and dances from mainly West Africa and Zimbabwe. We are also influenced by contemporary community dance practice and yoga. Our teachers include: Chris Berry, Naby Bangoura,

Mohammed Bangoura, Bismark Kofi Danyo, Robert Koffie Fugah, Epizo Bangoura and Jimi Dale. Kristine Walsh teaches West African inspired Dance classes with Live Drumming on Wednesdays during the school term. In the community classes, there is space for free self-expression, building new movement sequences and for enhancing one’s sense of rhythm. Classes are open to beginners or experienced movers! When: Wednesday 7:00 -8.30 pm (in School Term)
Where: 46 Wharf Road, Te Atatu
Exchange: $17 Casual class/or discount for whole term course

We will start with an uplifting warm up, groove across the floor, practice our dance choreography, play with free dance improvisation and then we will finish with a calming warm down.
