Busy Bees Otahuhu

Last week in our Kawakawa Room, we celebrated Samoan Language Week. Throughout the week, our babies enjoyed painting activities and singing Samoan songs. On Friday, we marked the occasion with a special celebration and a display table featuring cultural items. It was a wonderful opportunity for our tamariki to explore and appreciate Samoan culture. ❤️🇼🇸

What a fun and busy week in the Kawakawa Room 🌿✨

Our babies enjoyed exploring a variety of indoor and outdoor experiences, including painting with rollers, messy muddy play with toy animals, and helping our Kaiako tidy up autumn leaves in the playground 🍂🐷🎨

Through these hands-on activities, children are developing sensory learning, fine motor skills, creativity, imagination, and confidence while exploring the world around them. Helping care for the outdoor environment also encourages a sense of responsibility and caring for nature 🌱

These experiences support our Bee Curious curriculum, encouraging children to explore, discover, and learn through meaningful play 💛

Today, we had a lovely visit from the students of Fairburn School, who performed a Rotuma Island dance for us. Thank you so much for the wonderful performance - we really enjoyed it!

Our Kawakawa Room tamariki have been making the most of the beautiful autumn sunshine while exploring the outdoors today 🍂☀️

The children enjoyed playing with the fallen leaves — touching, throwing, crunching, and discovering the different colours and textures that come with the changing season. By using seasonal changes as part of our play and learning experiences, tamariki are able to connect with nature, explore their senses, and build curiosity about the world around them.

Last Friday, we celebrated Mother’s Day in the Kawakawa Room at our daycare centre 💐
Our babies were busy all week making special gifts and cards for their mums. It was so lovely celebrating together and taking beautiful photos with all the amazing mums ❤️

Today’s highlight in the Kawakawa Room was playdough. Children enjoyed exploring the soft texture, squeezing, rolling, and shaping it with their hands. We added props such as cutlery and plates, which inspired imaginative play as children began to create and pretend. This hands on experience supported their fine motor development and encouraged creativity through sensory play.
