✨ Matariki at Little Pūkekos ✨

As we reflect on our Matariki 2026, we wanted to share some of the meaningful learning and connection that took place across June and July.

Our tamariki explored the stories and meaning of the Matariki stars through art, waiata, shared kai, storytelling and thoughtful conversations. Together, we remembered those who came before us, celebrated the people and connections we have in the present, and shared our hopes for the future.

Our Matariki whānau evening was a special time to come together, strengthen relationships and belonging, and proudly share our learning and kapa haka. Manaakitanga is an important value at Little Pūkekos, creating a place of warmth, care and support for all.

Looking to the year ahead, one of our aspirations is to nurture a deep love and respect for our natural environment. Alongside our tamariki, we hope to grow Little Pūkekos into a centre that actively cares for Papatūānuku, supported by a curriculum that fosters connection to and care for the environment 🌿

Watch this space to see our plans in action 🌿

🌿 The Art of Unhurried Care 🌿

At Little Pūkekos Preschool Pukekohe, we believe there is beauty in slowing down.

We embrace a gentle, unhurried pace that allows tamariki the time they need to play deeply, build relationships, explore, create, and simply be children. We value presence, connection, and trust that meaningful learning unfolds when children are given time and space.

How do we do this? By intentionally creating a calm and responsive environment. You'll often find our lights dimmed, our walls uncluttered, and our spaces thoughtfully designed to feel soft and calm rather than overwhelming. With high-quality ratios, our kaiako have the time to truly notice, respond, and be present with children. Our days are rich with opportunities to learn, offered in a way that feels calm and inviting.

Unhurried care means children don't have to rush through their play, move quickly from one activity to the next, or compete for adult attention. It means kaiako have the time to sit alongside children, listen to their ideas, offer comfort when needed, and truly know each child as an individual.

In a world that often moves too fast, we're proud to offer a place where childhood is cherished and each child can grow at their own pace. 💛

If your looking for a special place of care and education, pop in and visit us.
