We had a great Matariki celebration with our children and families. As this time is for sharing and being together, staff decided a movie and yummy foods would be appropriate. We all watched TROLLS…. A movie focused on friendship and happiness. The children thought this was great and had a blast.
A fun time was had by all!!!!!

In these next few weeks we are looking at our diverse whanau of children. We do come from many countries don’t we…. We have looked at the native flower of the country… the countries special dish; their native costume; the flora of the area; animals specific to that country….and much more. What fun learning for the children!!

The tamariki of Mairangi Bay Preschool are being treated to sushi rolls today….. maybe next time they will help make them!!!!!

We are so lucky to have nature at our door step. The children and teachers went for a walk to gather our goodies to add to our jars to observe later on.

Matariki is the Maori name for the cluster of stars, that rises in midwinter and for many Maori, heralds the start of a new year. It is a special time for all the people of Aotearoa to come together and reflect on the (tau) that has passed, celebrate the present, and plan for the furture. Our children here at our centre are enjoying listening to the past stories of Matariki, creating beautiful art work all together as one big family. These moments are so precious to us learning about our culture of our country.

Our children love spending time outside... and today they found a rainbow together...Facets of science can be taught through Rainbows ......children showed their curiosity of how and why Rainbows are formed. The teachers then extended this to puddles and the kaleidoscope of colors that are seen. Today this initiated informal group discussions in the playground ...which were then carried on in circle time with the aid of text books

To all our wonderful whanau,
This week, on the lead up to ANZAC DAY, your beautiful children are involved in lots of experiences. So far they have created together a 3D construction of a "POPPY GARDEN" complete with clouds, rolling hills .... and their individual conception of a poppy flower. An awful lot of fun was had by all children and teachers, and showing great teamwork and cooperation skills.
