MARK THE DATE: The Sunday after Battle of Britain Day (15 Sep) is always one of our biggest flying days at Ardmore. A visitor centre ticket gets you a hangar-door viewpoint to watch and photograph our pilots and groundcrews as they prepare for the morning's flypast over Auckland War Memorial Museum.

When: Sunday 20 Sep
Time: startups and departures from 10am
What: Harvards, Chipmunks, Tiger Moth and others TBC

Also on site: a fantastic food and coffee truck! Our friends from Flavour Fiesta on Wheels will be back with coffee and treats... make sure you arrive early before the pilots snaffle them all

Then why not head down to Ardmore Cafe for lunch once the aircraft come back about 1130?

AND THERE’S MORE

Check our other post for details about Guy Clapshaw’s hangar talk at 3pm later the same afternoon.

TJL proves her prowess yet again. Who says Flight Levels are the exclusive playground of airliners and not the domain of a well‑handled, normally aspirated 172?

The weather behaved itself for half the weekend, giving several members the chance to climb far higher than their usual neighbourhood, try their hand at supplemental oxygen, and enjoy a bird’s‑eye view of a very busy Saturday afternoon stream of international arrivals into Auckland. FL150 was achieved — a figure that generated more than a little curiosity from Auckland Control, who very kindly supported our high‑altitude ambitions.

Sunday, alas, was less cooperative, and TJL remained earthbound. But with a bit of luck and a friendlier forecast, we’ll be able to run another Flight Levels weekend soon and give more members the chance to join in the fun.
