Orewa College - International

During the week of 20th November, 43 students from Tsunan Secondary School in Japan visited us to get a taste of what life at Orewa College is like and also to share their own culture and language with our Year 9 and 10 students who are learning Japanese.
They loved Orewa Beach and also visited Eaves Bush and the Supermarket. They learned about NZ birds and did some mapping tasks. They visited their buddies' classes and joined in a year 10 PE class. They visited Year 8 classes to share their culture with items such as origami and wearing a kimono.

Last week was the start of our End of Year Programme for senior international students who are not sitting NCEA exams,
We made mince and cheese pies and pikelets in the cooking room.

We went on Camp to Waipu Cove. The weather was brilliant and a great kiwi camping experience was had by all including staying in tents, camp cooking in small groups, kiwi BBQ, beach games, swimming, surfing and horse trekking.

We also visited Waipu Caves Farm Park and went through the show cave. Our End of Year programme continues this week with day trips and educational activities.

Yesterday our NZ Experience class visited Kelly Tarlton's in the morning and then making the most of the glorious sunshine we had lunch up at Bastion Point and enjoyed a walk down to Mission Bay beach and along the waterfront.

The International Students, who take New Zealand Experience, visited Auckland's iconic Rangitoto Island on Friday 18th August, as part of their course, learning about Auckland’s geology.

Students got the bus to Auckland City and then the Ferry to the Island. They climbed to the summit, stopping to explore the lava caves on the way.

The views from the top were stunning and worth the climb up!

At the start of term 3 we had 30 new International students arrive from 9 different countries. The students spent week 1 on an Orientation Course. It included a day out at Shakespear Park on the only fine day in ages!

Yesterday our students taking New Zealand Experience visited Te Hana Te Ao Marama Cultural Centre and participated in the powhiri. We then toured the 17th Century replica village. A great day out to help their journey to learn and experience more about Aotearoa New Zealand.
