The latest group of Young Eagles being shown a Cessna 172 and Piper Archer by instructor Minou. A bit of a chilly and windy morning so they soon headed inside for a quiz!

Six of our Young Eagles went on a great Flyaway trip in two C172 yesterday. Ardmore-Tauranga-Pauanui-Ardmore, flying a leg each. Fantastic weather for a great afternoon adventure!

Another winner!
Congratulations to all the winners, but especially to our Auckland Aero Club Young Eagle, Ethan Santos. Very well done, Ethan, a great achievement!

Many congratulations to Harry! Very proud of you🙂

And so the 2022 scholarship results keep coming ...

Nelson Aviation College and Flying New Zealand are pleased to announce that HARRY COOPER from Auckland Aero Club has won the 2022 Flying NZ Nelson Aviation College Kirk Samuel Dakers Memorial Scholarship.

Kirk Dakers was an inspiring young man who joined Nelson Aviation College (NAC) as a student and who quickly gained his PPL and CPL qualifications and joined NAC as an instructor. Sadly, an illness took Kirk too soon, but NAC are keen to see his memory live on and his infectious passion for aviation help an enthusiastic pilot like Harry.

Harry will receive $3,000 paid through the Auckland Aero Club to kick-start his flying career.

Congratulations Harry.

Owing to a rather disrupted 12 months, we don't expect to be taking applications for any new Young Eagles until at least September with a view to starting in 2022.

After a bit of a gap, when some of the YE's had their flights with an instructor, we had a session on Navigation and Meteorology a couple of weeks ago.

Coming up is help at the Club's Working Bee and a visit to the AirNZ 777 simulator! Then a visit to Ardmore Helicopters and Unicomm.

Last week we heard a bit about aircraft maintenance and all the rules that have to be followed from one of our Club members who is an engineer with Air New Zealand. Then we had a bit of crystal ball gazing and what airlines might be flying in the future from another member (also trained as an engineer), who also works for Air New Zealand. Amazing where an engineering education can take you!
Then it was activity time - aircraft washing! Many enthusiastic YE's with brushes and supervised by Andrew on the water blaster made it a quick job. Does help to be tall though to get at the wings!
