One of the things that’s most important to me when running my parent groups is how the space feels.
I want every parent who walks through the door to feel welcomed, safe, and able to simply be. Those early weeks and months can feel overwhelming enough, so I believe the environment should offer a sense of calm from the moment you arrive.

That’s why I carefully choose warm, peaceful spaces where both you and your baby can relax. My courses are intentionally designed to be gentle and unhurried, with no expectation for babies to be “good” or “settled.” If your little one needs to feed, be cuddled, sleep through the session, or just take everything in at their own pace, that’s exactly as it should be.

These groups aren’t about getting everything right. They’re about finding connection, feeling supported, and knowing you’re in a space where you and your baby are accepted exactly as you are.

Creating that kind of environment isn’t just a nice extra, it’s at the heart of everything I do. 🤍

Always very grateful to the amazing centres that offer their beautiful spaces for us to use.

Before you dress your baby in that next adorable outfit… hear me out!

Those tiny little leggings and cute little shoes are impossible to resist, but one of the best things you can do for your baby’s brain and movement is just to have time with bare legs and feet.
Even for tiny newborns, letting them have their feet and legs free of restrictive clothing and socks/shoes does so much good:

It wakes up their brain: Their legs and feet are covered in nerve endings. Feeling different textures gives them a ton of sensory feedback.
It gives them grip: Clothes are slippery! Bare skin gives them the traction they need to kick, roll, and scoot without sliding around.
It helps them find their body: Feeling their own bare skin helps them figure out where their limbs are, which builds coordination for later.

Think of clothes as a bit of a barrier to exploration. Just 10 minutes of barely legs and feet time a day gives them a huge developmental boost.

Swipe through to see why bare skin is such a superpower!

’Set’ toys tell babies what to think. Open-ended resources teach babies how to think.

As a qualified ECE teacher with nearly 13 years in the under-two space and as a RIE facilitator, my absolute favourite thing to set out for pēpi isn’t a shelf of expensive, flashing toys that have a singular purpose. It’s a basket of heuristic, loose parts that have endless opportunities

When we offer babies everyday items, like light metal cups, smooth wooden rings, and textured fabrics, we unlock a deeply respectful version of play. They aren’t just being entertained, they are acting as little scientists testing out weight, texture, sound, and gravity.

Swipe through to see the 4 big benefits of open-ended play for babies under one!

One of my other favourite parts of our Parent & Pēpi courses is our community Treasure Basket tradition. By the final session, every parent sources up to 10 identical loose parts (depending on how many people are in the group. We swap them all out, meaning every family leaves with the ultimate, multi-textured starter kit for home. It is such a beautiful, collaborative way to end our time together!

Tell me in the comments: What is your pēpi’s absolute favourite “non-toy” object to explore right now? (The reflective balls are a firm favourite in our classes)
