Last week our Year 5–6 tamariki took part in an awesome Cycle Safety kaupapa run by the Harbour Sport team. This programme, fully funded by Auckland Transport, focused on building confidence on bikes and learning important bike safety skills.
The tamariki enjoyed taking part in the hands-on activities and learning alongside instructors. A huge thank you to Harbour Sport for providing the bikes, helmets, and support to make this valuable learning experience possible for our ākonga. Even Whaea Sharon had a go 🚴♀️🚴♂️

In our Kauri class we had been learning about Area, Perimeter and using a ruler to measure. So we thought it would be fun to use these skills and build a tiny house. They had to plan it first, thinking about what they would put into their tiny house. The final version had to have furniture and be landscaped. Am super impressed with the skill, commitment and effort put into them. They look awesome - future architects in the making - Whaea Tasha

On Friday, our Koromiko class competed in Te Puni Reo Poitarawhiti, a te reo Māori netball tournament out in West Auckland. They played against many other kura Māori all over Tāmaki which was an awesome opportunity to kōrero Māori. They enjoyed the challenge and supporting the important kaupapa 🏐🏐

Today we had the exciting opportunity to welcome a film crew from Pūkana into our kura to film our tamariki from Te Puāwaitanga. It was a very special experience for everyone involved, and our tamariki absolutely loved having the chance to showcase their confidence, personalities, and Kapa Haka in front of the cameras. It was a memorable experience had by all. We are now looking forward to hopefully seeing Te Puāwaitanga featured on Whakaata Māori soon!

Wow - Whaea Myia our kaiako in Pūriri performed with Te Poho Hine Kahukura this morning at the Tāmaki Makaurau Kapa Haka Regionals.
So many hours of practice paid off. She was amazing and so was her rōpū!

2026 Pink Shirt Day was another huge success here at Birkdale Primary School. A big thank you to Whaea Christina and the student leaders who helped put together our Pink Shirt roadside celebration this morning. It was a beautiful day for Pink Shirt Day today. The icing on the cake for the students was the chance to slime our awesome tumuaki, Whaea Natasha and our amazing 3 kaiako, Whaea Sharon, Whaea Christina and Whaea Tasha. Thank you to everyone who donated a gold coin, we raised $163.00 for a great cause 🩷
Watch out over the next couple of days for a video showing the highlights. Enjoy your weekend 🩷

This Friday 15th May is Pink Shirt Day 2026. We would love our students to come to school wearing a pink shirt, or any pink item to support this fantastic cause. Pink Shirt Day is about working together to stop bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting positive social relationships. It is a great cause, and Birkdale Primary School is happy to show it's support. Gold coin donation to your classroom teacher please 💟
