Here's a quick look back at some of the activities we enjoyed at Potiki over the school holiday period.

Today the sun was shining, so we made the most of it with a Wheel Day!

We headed down to the skateboard park, where the tamariki had an awesome time skating, scootering, running, and playing. It was the perfect way to burn off some energy and enjoy the beautiful weather together.

Late post!
With school holidays in full swing, our numbers are a bit lower this week. On Monday, we had a special activity planned with Whaea Shireen — making roti!

Tamariki had a wonderful time getting hands-on in the kitchen, making their own roti for lunch. It was a fun and delicious way to spend the day, and a great opportunity for them to learn new skills and connect through kai.

Late post!!
Last week we celebrated Maori Language Week. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Māori Language Week. The official theme for 2025 is "Ake ake ake – A forever language. We celebrated it through music and movement, stories, weaving and shared morning tea with our whanau.
Our 2 waiata was Waiata Ruru and Whakarongo mai.
Karakia Timatanga lead by Jyoti and Karakia Whakamutunga lead by the whole team.
"Ko tōku reo tōku ohooho, ko tōku reo tōku māpihi maurea," meaning "My language is my awakening, my language is the window to my soul".

Last week was the first time our 3-year-olds were separated from our 4–5-year-olds during school preparation time.
This uninterrupted environment allowed our 4–5-year-olds to improve their attention span and fully engage in school readiness activities.

At the same time, our 3-year-olds took part in meaningful, age-appropriate experiences that encouraged rich conversations. These activities provided a safe space for them to open up and express their thoughts, feelings, and ideas — giving us a glimpse into their wonderful little minds.

Here’s our tamariki expressing their thoughts using the pin board — such powerful voices from our little learners!

Happy (Belated) Father’s Day!
To all the amazing fathers and father figures in our whānau — we celebrate you! Thank you for all that you do!

We also want to acknowledge the incredible mothers who have taken on both roles for their tamariki, especially our strong teen mums. You are truly awesome!

We hope you all had a special Father’s Day yesterday, filled with love and appreciation. 💙
