A few tears were shed, many cackles were heard! 😬😂

Tupu was thrilled to host the We Read Auckland | Spoken Word Workshop for another year 🤩

Facilitated by the talented Luani Luani 🌱 and Koko supakoko 🌟, our attendees were led into an interactive session that helped them create powerful pieces inspired by their home, roots and family 🍃

A massive thank you to Luani and Koko for creating a safe space for connection and bringing out the best in everyone who showed up!

Also a big shout out to our participants for your hearty engagement 👏🤩 Spoken Word is a performance art and the performances seen at the workshop were nothing short of spectacular. So much star quality in our community!

25 years of Tupu would not be possible without the people who have believed in it!

Over the years, so many hands, hearts, and voices have helped shape Tupu into the space it is today. Thank you to the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board members and all the decision-makers and community leaders. To the Auckland Council staff and former staff, community organisations and partners that work with Tupu to deliver amazing initiatives and support to the community.

Some amazing people were a part of bringing the day together. Thank you to Adullam Boys Club, Shining Light and Joyful Church. We truly appreciate your hard work and effort! OMAC and their team for their awesome work and Flatbush Primary and Dawson Road Primary for their wonderful performances.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has contributed to Tupu’s journey over the past 25 years. 🤎

Affectionately dubbed “Tupu’s Child”, Heta and his story reflect the many young people who have entered our space over the years — young people whom we strive to support, celebrate, and empower.

Libraries have always been a powerful tool. But in Heta’s words, it’s not purely because of the books.

It’s the friendships that are built.
The memories that are made.
The confidence that grows.
The dreams that are nurtured.

We are a collection of stories and people. 📖

For 25 years, Tupu has been a space where those stories have unfolded — and our wish for the next 25 is that we continue to cultivate the same values and spirit that Tupu was founded on.

A place where our youth come first.
A place where they can belong, be celebrated, and believe in what’s possible.

To everyone who has walked through Tupu’s doors, shared in its story, and helped shape what it is today - ngā mihi nui 💛

Here’s to 25 years of Tupu, and to all the stories still waiting to be told. ✨

🇵🇭 Filipino Word of the Day: MASARAP 😋

Who remembers Stick-O’s?? 🤤

Masarap can be used to describe food that tastes good!

We’ve been enjoying this masarap Filipino snack all week! What is your favourite Filipino food or snack?

🇵🇭 Filipino Word of the Day: BUDOL 🛍️

Budol is a modern slang term used for buying something impulsively or unplanned.

A little budol never hurt! A lot of budol, might 😩 just make sure you have trusted friends who you can ask - that’s why Camille keeps an eye on Ana 😌😂

What was your most recent budol? 🫣

🇵🇭 Filipino Word of the Day: MARITES 🗣️

🇵🇭 Our Filipino Words of the Day: KUMUSTA? 👋 and SALAMAT 💛

Kumusta means “How are you?” Or “Hello” - a friendly way to greet someone.

Salamat means “Thank you!”

Kumusta, friends! Salamat for stopping by and learning with us 🙏🇵🇭 (and salamat to Heta for putting us all on to his favourite Filipino song 😌)

In celebration of our 25th Birthday, we asked our teens a few simple questions…
Some were sweet, some were wholesome, some had us questioning everything 😭
But that’s what makes our Tupu teens, Tupu teens!🫰
