Last week, we had Teresa from St John visit us as part of our Unit Study and Community topic with Rooms 7 and 8.

Our younger students had a great opportunity to learn about paramedics, what they do, and how they can help us. The programme also focuses on helping students feel more comfortable and confident when meeting paramedics and accessing their support.

A big thank you to Teresa and St John for spending time with us and making the learning experience meaningful and fun!

Wilson Base School celebrated 'Reading Across Aotearoa Book Week' by exploring four NZ authors, their books, where the authors are from in NZ, what their environments are like and playing games 'Guess the Character' and 'Aotearoa Authors' Squares'. Students 'visited' Lynley Dodd's Rotorua with goopy mud and warm water bottles, Nikki Slade Robinson's Te Puke with a mini golf course, and kiwi tasting, Craig Smith's Central Otago with ice, water and blue penguins and Peter Gossage's Auckland with sensory lights and building materials for creating sky towers. Lots of engagement, fun, laughs and learning were shared by all!!!

Maths Week – done and dusted! 🎉🔢

It was great to see so many classes getting involved in Maths Week activities and, most importantly, having their whānau join in!

There were lots of fun activities happening across our classes, including mini cafés where students practised using money as part of their life skills, different activity stations where they could explore and learn, practising taking turns, sensory activities, and simply having fun learning together with their whānau.

A big thank you to all the classes who participated and to all the parents and whānau who took the time to join us. We really appreciate your support! ❤️

First café of the term, and look at it—it’s full!

We love seeing everyone back in full swing. Our students are developing important life skills by taking orders, serving customers, counting money, and, of course, socialising with other students.

It’s also wonderful to see our satellite schools visiting the base school and enjoying the café together. What a fantastic way to build confidence, independence, and connections across our school community! 💙
