A useful question for hypnotherapists:

When a client understands the issue, but still does not change... what are you actually working with?

Sometimes it is not a lack of insight.

Sometimes it is state.

A client can consciously want change while another part of them is still protecting, bracing, or repeating an older survival pattern.

That is why understanding internal states matters.

Because the clearer you are on the state behind the pattern, the clearer you become on what to target first.

Less guessing.
Less random technique hopping.
More precision.

That is one of the things I really appreciate about ESI Mapping. It gives practitioners a practical way to understand resistance and behaviour change more clearly.

A small shift in what you are looking at can change the whole direction of a session.
