The tamariki (children) enjoyed our special “lights out for Matariki” day today. We had all of the blinds closed and lights turned off for the day and used fairy lights to create a night sky throughout the kindy. The children brought their torchers and had fun experimenting with light. They also made a beautiful star light box! Mānawatia a Matariki to our community - we hope you all have a safe and happy day with your friends and whānau (family) ✨

Mānawatia a Matariki! ✨ Today we are recognising one of the nine whetū (stars) of Matariki - Tupuāknu. This star is associated with everything that grows within the soil that is then harvested for kai (food). The tamariki (children) have brought in some vegetables this morning that we will be using to make soup. We will work together to make our soup and come together to enjoy it for lunch. We will be sharing the process of making our soup!

The process of making our kites this morning! The tamariki (children) were practising their fine motor skills as they cut with the scissors and decorated their kites using colouring pencils and star sequins. 🪁✨

Today for our holiday programme we are having a special cultural day! One of our parents has been kind enough to spend the morning with us doing henna for the tamariki (children). The children are also creating a piece of art that celebrates the flags of different counties from around the world.

After picking some mandarins from our garden yesterday and packing them into our trip bag, we headed out for a walk to Chaucer Primary School, Blockhouse Bay. After a small walk exploring the school grounds we stopped and enjoyed our afternoon tea on Chaucer’s new picnic tables.

Wheels day is under way! A great day of fun activities as well as building on our road safety knowledge! 🚲🛴🚙
