Selwyn College Alumni

Thank you to everyone who attended our 70th celebrations yesterday - We had an overwhelming turnout. When we initially started planning the event, we were expecting between two and three hundred people, but between the two events, we had about five hundred people, put us at absolute capacity. It was an honour to see so many past students and teachers, including over twenty three foundation pupils, and hear all their wonderful memories of the school! We hope everyone who came enjoyed themselves - and that we'll see you, and anyone who missed out this time, at the next one!

The Selwyn College 70th Celebration is a month away and we've got almost 400 people registered to attend! It's free to attend, you just need to sign up via Humanitix so we know how many to expect! We'd love to see you there!

Asking for the wisdom of the alumni! We came across these photos in the archive but they aren't labelled. Can anyone remember what event they were from? It looks to be from the early 70s.

A very early aerial image of Selwyn College and its surrounds - you can see the school centered in the lower half of the image. Many of the buildings you may remember have not been built yet: only the main block and its wings exist, plus the technology block, the original drama/music block and the gym.

We're digging in the archive for fun things to bring out on display for Selwyn College's 70th Celebration. Here are four of my favourite unique trophies we've found! Featuring:

- A lil wire guy in rugby kit, on a trophy for the interhouse rugby competition in the 1960s
- A lil fish, on a trophy for biology.
- A superbly 80s trophy awarded in 1985 for a music video competition (Best Music Interpretation for "Alone")
- And an unfortunately beat up, but still with heaps of character, shield for a Tug 'O War competition between Past Pupils and Staff.

This year's Selwyn College Musical is "We Will Rock You", a hilarious futurist comedy written by Ben Elton centered around 24 of Queen's biggest hits! The production runs from March 21-28 and tickets are available from iTicket. Come and let the talented current Selwyn cohort rock you!

Do you ever have that dream you're back at school and you have to sit an exam? Recently found in the archives, a copy of the 1967 University Entrance Mathematics exam! Can anyone here remember sitting it? Can anyone answer the questions from it that we've included?
