Our school is a community that offers a strong sense of whanau/family, in a learning approach that encourages the development of our studentsโ€™ cultural identity and home languages, in two distinct 'schools' within the campus - Te Whanau o Tupuranga (Centre for Maori Education) and Fanau Pasifika (Centre for Pasifika Education). We believe our young people deserve the best of both worlds โ€“ high s

Applications for consideration for School Transport in 2026 are open now. Every student / whanau who wishes to catch either the bus or vans next year must complete and submit an application form.

Transport cost $15.00 per child, per week.

I will need the bus numbers so that I can work with the bus company to plan the bus route and to make decisions about the size of the bus.
Here is the link to the form ... https://forms.office.com/r/WapLTLdyy1

Remember that we are only able to transport:
โ—พ๏ธYear 1 โ€“ Y8 students who live 3.2 km from school over the shortest public road or pedestrian route from the home roadside gate to the schoolโ€™s front gate.
โ—พ๏ธYear 9 โ€“ Y13 students who live 4.8 km from school over the shortest public road or pedestrian route from the home roadside gate to the schoolโ€™s front gate.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Tฤ“nฤ tatou e te whฤnau

It is with great sadness and deepest sympathy we inform you that yesterday Whaea Sheridan Martin, our Campus nurse, passed away yesterday.

Whaea Sheridan touched many of our whฤnau, not only our children and their whฤnau but also staff and former students. She loved working at our Campus so much that she enrolled some of her own whฤnau. She always spoke about how different it was at Kia Aroha, she loved the wairua and the whฤnau atmosphere. But most of all she loved our kids.

We are making arrangements to take kai to the whฤnau, go to the house on Sunday and travel up to Mangamuka on Tuesday for her burial.

We have shared our love and condolences to Ross, Sheridan's children and her whฤnau. Moe mai ra e te mareikura.

E mihi ana

Tฤ“nฤ koutou e te whฤnau

Ngฤ mihi o te tau hou Pฤkeha ki a koutou. I hope you have all enjoyed an enjoyable Christmas and New Years break. As we start to prepare for our school year, I thought Iโ€™d do some updates.

๐ŸŸ All students start school on MONDAY 2nd FEBRUARY 2026.
๐ŸŸ Returning students should be at school at 8.45am in Number 1 uniform so that we are ready for our new students and families to join us at 9.15am
๐ŸŸ New students and whฤnau will be welcomed with a Powhiri directly into their learning areas on the first day starting at 9.15am.
๐ŸŸ Whฤnau are welcome to stay with your child for as long as you want to on the first day. Please ensure you park on the road. The school carpark is for staff vehicles only.
๐ŸŸ Remember FRIDAY 6th FEBRUARY is Waitangi Day, so there will be no school.

๐ŸŸกYou have enrolled in a kaupapa. We expect outstanding attendance from all students. Our roll has increased so much that we are declining enrolments from whฤnau who demonstrate that they are not as committed to our kauapa as we expect. Looking at previous attendance is one indicator that we use.
๐ŸŸกWe will remove students from our roll who do not turn up on the first day of school - as non-attendance would indicate that they are no longer interested in keeping their place on our roll. If your child is removed from the roll, they will not be offered a place at a later date in the year. If your child is going to be away at any time for any reason, we need to know. Please email [email protected] to let us know about any absences.
๐ŸŸกTe Whฤnau o Tupuranga has 245 Y0-13 students - we are pretty much at capacity, so if you no longer want your place we would appreciate you letting us know so we can offer your place to someone else.
๐ŸŸกFanau Pasifika (Fonuamalu, Lumanai and Fatufatu Fala, our Lea Faka Tonga Y0-6 total immersion class) still have limited vacancies.

๐Ÿ”ตIf you are yet to enrol, enrolments are open now. Please fill in the enrolment form online: www.kiaaroha.school.nz/enrol-now
๐Ÿ”ตAll enrolments require an interview, please do not purchase school uniform until you have been interviewed. Last year some people brought uniform before we had accepted their enrolment, so were not able to get a refund from the Uniform shop when their enrolment was declined.
๐Ÿ”ตEnrolment interviews will start on 20th January 2026.

We are calling for expressions of interest for enrolment into Te Whare Karioi o Kia Aroha for next year.

This form will be open until Any whanau wanting their child to join the Karioi must complete the form so that we are able to make staffing decisions and organise placements for next year.

This year we have had several whฤnau request to move during the year. This will not be an option in 2026. Whฤnau requesting a place for their child in the Karioi will need to commit for the entire year. Students who are currently in the Karioi will also need to complete the form and reaffirm their commitment for 2026.

Tฤ“na Koutou

Just a clarification about the Secondary School Teachers Strike action planned for tomorrow. While we fully support our Secondary colleagues, Kia Aroha is an Area School so our Teachers are not participating in this strike. Kia Aroha will be open as usual.

Please also remember, that we are currently asking for your support to complete the survey which will inform our next Strategic Plan. Our survey is open until FRIDAY 22nd AUGUST.
