Last week we had our annual Summer Camp - what an epic way to launch into 2024! We had an absolutely hectic time down at Finlay Park - as always, thanks to all our counsellors for running the show, the dads who helped with activities, and everyone who helped behind the scenes! Check out the video below put together by one of our counsellors.
Both Glenrowan Study Centre and Greywood Study Centre (in Hamilton) have a bunch of activities for all ages - intermediate, high school, university students and young professionals. If you or someone you know may be interested in our activities for your boys and young men, please do get int touch - we're always keen to hear from new faces!
We've got plenty in store for this year, so bring on 2024! πππ

The final day of the Father's visit!
He spoke at a general get-together at an events centre in Orakei. The Father was welcomed with a traditional karanga and presented with a korowai (traditional mΔori cloak) and the crowd sang Ka Waiata to welcome him on stage.
The Father answered a lot of questions about family life and living out one's faith in amongst the turbulence of life. To put it simply, it was a wonderful, relaxed family gathering with some entertaining musical performances and some special moments.
The Father then departed for the airport, flying straight back to Rome and concluding his pastoral visit. Once again, there were plenty of families present at the airport to see him off. Final selfies, final hugs, final blessings and as one farewell banner put it: βNgΔ mihi nui na mΔ te wΔ!β - "Thank you and see you again!β

On Day 2 of his visit to Aotearoa NZ, the Father travelled down to Hamilton to visit some families in the Waikato and even popped into Greywood Study Centre for a brief visit!
Coming back up to Auckland, we had a get together for young men who come to the formational activities that we have. It was lovely gathering where he answered plenty of questions and also had some musical performances from the boys.
His answers were simple and practical: he encouraged us to live lives of prayer, frequent the sacraments, and be a genuine friend to others. The boys presented the Father with a few gifts - a pounamu (which he said was beautiful!), a patu (mΔori weapon) carved from a kauri tree over 45,000 years old, and a pair of silver fern cufflinks which he said he would remember us here every time he used them! And of course, one of the boys got him to sign a rugby ball too!
After giving us final words of encouragement, he gave us his blessing. A truly special evening!

It was less than 48 hours but what a whirlwind it was!
We were lucky enough to host Msgr Fernando OcΓ‘riz - the Prelate of Opus Dei - for a few days here in beautiful Aotearoa. The Prelate, affectionately known to many as simply "the Father", visited Aotearoa New Zealand as the final leg of his his Pastoral trip which started in the Philippines, then Indonesia, and spent a couple of weeks in Australia before hopping across the ditch to visit his sons and daughters here.
A few families were there to greet him at the airport on Thursday night - he was greeted with plenty of cheers, flowers, banners and was even given some blocks of Whittakers Chocolate to try!
Check out a few snaps and stay tuned for more photos of what's been an exciting past few days!

Another camp done and dusted! π₯ΆποΈππ₯
Despite the less than ideal skiing conditions, we all managed to have an absolute blast! It was great to see plenty of new faces and really encouraging to see the boys push themselves outside of their comfort zones with all the activities. There were a few bumps, bruises and battle scars, but on the whole, everyone came out relatively unscathed albeit more than a little tired!
Thanks to all who helped out and make it happen!

Robust, intellectual discussion π§ βοΈ
We were lucky enough to have Dr Rowan Light join us last week to kick off our first "Wine and Cheese" discussion evening for 2022!
Rowan is a historian and teacher at at the University of Auckland and also works as a project curator at the Auckland War Memorial Museum, assisting the Human History team in the redevelopment of the New Zealand Wars gallery.
He has just finished writing a book (and no, we are not receiving any payment for advertising this) which you can check out (and buy!) using the link below. It's called "Anzac Nations: The legacy of Gallipoli in New Zealand and Australia". Our discussion looked at the evolution of the Anzac ceremony, and the deeper meaning of remembrance and commemoration.
We have a Wine and Cheese evening for young professionals once a month - if you're interested then do get in touch!
