"Something not quite right?
If you notice a new or changing spot on your skin, it's important you see your GP or skin specialist as soon as possible.
Not sure what to look for? If you notice:
- Asymmetry; one half of a mole doesn't match the other.
- Border; edges are irregular or uneven.
- Colour; there are different shades or colours within the same mole.
- Different; the mole looks different from others you have on your body.
- Evolving; the mole has changed or is new, elevated or painful.
- Firm; firm to the touch.
- Growing; one or multiple moles on your body are growing in size and are more than 6mm.
Any changes to moles on your skin require a check from your GP or skin specialist, who may refer you for diagnostic imaging to confirm whether or not the mole is melanoma.
If you're concerned, it's important to get it checked. You can read more about melanoma and our partnership with Melanoma New Zealand here: https://www.alleviaradiology.co.nz/melanoma-awareness-campaign

- More than 7,200 cases of melanoma are diagnosed
- Around 300 people die from melanoma
- Men are twice as likely to die from melanoma
When melanoma is detected early, survival rates exceed 98% - therefore, understanding the melanoma stages and symptoms is important to ensure treatment and detection are sought as soon as possible.

Did you know that New Zealand has one of the highest rates of bowel cancer in the world?
Our biggest barrier in diagnosing and treating any form of gut-related disease is simply, silence. There are not enough conversations around symptoms, diagnosis and treatment, and in partnership with The Gut Foundation, we want to change this.
At Allevia Radiology, we often check the bowel with a CT Colonography - a faster, smarter way to check what's happening in the gut. A CTC is an advanced, accurate scan used to detect bowel cancer and precancerous polyps. It’s safe, quick and less invasive than a conventional colonoscopy, using CT images and 3D views to focus on the large bowel.
If you are experiencing any changes in your gut, be sure to discuss any symptoms with your doctor. Together, you can decide if a CT colonography is right for you - your Doctor can then refer you to Allevia Radiology.

We are proud to announce our partnership with The Gut Foundation.
Did you know your gut is home to 70% of your immune system? It helps with a wide myriad of bodily functions, but when the system is out of balance, due to lack of sleep, poor diet, or stress, to name a few, it can set the stage for chronic illness, fatigue, allergies and more.
When you know what your "normal" feels like, it can be much easier to know when to speak to your Doctor about any symptoms you may be experiencing. The Gut Foundation offer an array of educational information that can help you get ahead of illness, boost performance, and learn the small, powerful habits that make a big difference in daily gut health.
