Huge congratulations to Madi McLellan and her band Sidetracked, who proudly represented HPSS and Rutherford College at the Smokefreerockquest Auckland Final last night.
Competing against 11 other outstanding bands who had all won their regional heats, each band performed two original songs. Sidetracked delivered an incredible performance and took home the Best Song Award.
The band also achieved an outstanding 2nd Place overall, earning one of only two coveted spots to create a three-song video submission for national judging. Their video will now be assessed alongside the top regional finalists from across New Zealand for a chance to progress to the Smokefreerockquest National Final.
We are incredibly proud of Madi and her whole band for their creativity, hard work, and success on the regional stage. Congratulations, Sidetracked – what an amazing achievement! Best wishes for Nationals selection!

After a long day of competition at the Auckland regional Ngā Manu Kōrero speech contest, we’re thrilled to share that Hobsonville Point Secondary School Year 13 student Ethan Pritchard was awarded the trophy for Best Male Speaker.
Ethan delivered his speech, “Home – The Place the Soul Bookmarks”, with a wonderful blend of insight, humour, and charisma, before also taking on the challenge of an impromptu speech on a topic revealed just five minutes before speaking.
We are incredibly proud of the way Ethan represented HPSS, his whānau, and his iwi today. His confidence, authenticity, and ability to connect with an audience made him a standout speaker and incredibly deserving of the taonga he won.
It is also important to acknowledge the many years of support, encouragement, education and aroha from all the staff at Te Kura o Te Whānau-ā-Apanui. This achievement reflects not only Ethan’s talent and hard work, but also the strong foundations his previous kura and his whānau, hapu and iwi have built.

We have a great opportunity to join our Student Services Team as a School Youth Nurse. We are seeking a friendly, flexible, experienced Registered Nurse (RN) with a keen interest in adolescent health care to join our high-functioning student support team.
