🇼🇸🌺 Samoan Language Week Celebration🌺🇼🇸
Talofa Lava! This week, our Toddlers had a wonderful time celebrating Samoan Language Week through a variety of fun and engaging arts and crafts activities. 🎨✨
The children explored Samoan culture through creative experiences that encouraged curiosity, learning, and appreciation of diversity.
A special thank you to Tala, one of our Samoan Aunties, who generously shared her culture with us through traditional songs, language, and dance. 🎶💃 The children loved joining in and experiencing the richness of Samoan culture in such a meaningful and authentic way. It was a week filled with learning, laughter, and cultural connection.

In our Preschool, Te Whare Tapa Whā in action 😀
We are nourishing Taha tinana outdoors, Taha hinengaro through thinking and music, Taha whānau through teamwork, and Taha wairua through wonder at the natural world.
When children feel safe, curious, and part of a team, learning just happens. These aren’t activities “we planned for them”, they are experiences we intentionally set up with them, honouring their interests.
Most of all, our tamariki are learning this is their tūrangawaewae, a place to explore, belong, and be themselves 💚

We preschool kaiako love open-ended ART :
WHANAUNGATANGA comes through when tamariki are invited to share the places that matter to them. The question “Where do I like spending time with my whānau/family?” becomes more than a prompt. It’s a chance to see belonging, connection, and identity reflected back on paper through their ART.
CREATIVITY shines when coloured pens meet paint. Bold lines for structure, then the surprise of colour spreading, blending, and transforming. No right or wrong way ☺️ just exploration, choice, and self-expression 🤩 through materials.
The power of SCIENCE lives in the “what if”. What happens when water touches the Paper? How does colour move across the page? Tamariki test theories, make predictions, observe results, and adjust their thinking. That’s kōwhiti whakapae – hypothesising in action ☺️.
This becomes a way for children to make Sense of their Worls, their RELATIONSHIPS , and how materials work.
One picture. So much learning 🎉to celebrate.

Our tamariki in Puanani room explored a variety of sensory and hands-on learning experiences through messy play, fine motor activities, outdoor exploration, and collaborative play. Children showed curiosity, confidence, and creativity as they investigated textures, practiced hand-eye coordination, and developed social connections with their peers.

Exploring Literacy Through Play:
This week in our Toddlers Room, the children have been actively engaging in activities focused on literacy development as part of our planning linked to Kōwhiti Whakapae. Through learning alphabets and numbers, exploring books, listening to stories, and participating in storytelling experiences, the children are building confidence in communication, language, and early literacy skills.
It has been wonderful to see their curiosity and excitement as they turn pages, recognise letters and numbers, sing songs, and engage in meaningful conversations with teachers and friends. These experiences support their growing love for learning while nurturing imagination, creativity, and a sense of belonging.

• Standing up for others
• Respecting differences
• Celebrating that everyone is unique and everyone belongs here
Thank you to all our families for supporting Pink Shirt Day with us. These small moments help build a culture where every child feels safe, valued, and included 💗
