Learning for Life 💙

Our preschoolers have spent the last weeks building the skills they need for school and for life.

By working as Tuakana and Teina, big friends helping little friends.

By showing Manaakitanga - kindness, respect and care.

By growing Rangatiratanga - leadership, voice, and confidence.

Alongside social-emotional learning, these experiences have helped our tamariki become capable, connected, and ready for their next big step.

Mā te mahi tahi, ka angitu tātou - Through working together, we succeed.

Puanani Room: Our tamariki celebrated Tongan Language Week through rich, hands‑on experiences inspired by the beautiful moments captured in our photos. Children explored an ocean sensory tray filled with blue sand, seashells, and laminated sea creatures labelled in Tongan Language, strengthening early language awareness and curiosity. They painted turtles, created their own simple paper ʻI (fan), and used red handprints to form striking border designs. Tamariki also enjoyed heuristic play with red and white boxes filled with fabrics to pull, push, and discover — supporting fine‑motor development, problem‑solving, and confident exploration. Throughout the week, they sang, danced, and played musical instruments to lively Tongan music, expressing joy, rhythm, and creativity. We were honoured to welcome a Tongan parent who shared the language, cultural items, and stories with our tamariki, deepening their sense of belonging and connection. Across all activities, children showed dispositions of engagement, wonder, persistence, and confidence, while building important learning outcomes such as language growth, cultural identity, social interaction, and creative expression. It has been a meaningful, joyful week in Puanani Room — celebrating Tongan culture through play, music, movement, and warm whanaungatanga.

Building, Creating & Exploring! 🏗️🎨
Our toddlers have been happily continuing their construction theme through lots of hands-on learning and creative play! 💛 They enjoyed painting a little house made from recycled egg trays, turning simple materials into something special. 🏠🎨
Out in the sandpit, the children worked together to create a tunnel, digging, scooping and experimenting as their ideas came to life. 🏖️🛠️ They also continued exploring our outdoor environment through active play, discovery and plenty of opportunities to build confidence and creativity.
And with winter sunshine warming us up, there was no better place to be than outdoors! ☀️❄️ Our toddlers enjoyed soaking up the sunshine while learning, playing and keeping active together. 💕🌿
Little hands, big ideas and lots of joyful learning! 🌟👷‍♀️👷‍♂️

This week we celebrated Pakistan & India Independence Day! 🇵🇰🇮🇳

Our tamariki explored culture, diversity and whanaungatanga through art and kōrero.
We learned about:
• The flags and what the colours and symbols represent
• The national bird: Peacock 🦚
• The national fruit: Mango 🥭
• The national animal: Tiger 🐅 & Markhor 🐐

Through painting, collage and craft, tamariki created beautiful artwork celebrating these special symbols.
It was such a wonderful way to honour the cultures in our centre and learn about the people and places that are important to our whānau.

Mana Whenua: Tamariki feel their culture is valued and celebrated here ❤️

Little Builders at Work!

Our toddlers have been busy exploring construction and building! They worked together to create a little house using cardboard boxes, using their imagination and creativity to turn simple materials into something special.

They also enjoyed building tall towers with colourful blocks and containers, carefully stacking, balancing, and experimenting with different ways to make their structures stand.

Through these experiences, our tamariki are developing their problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and confidence. They are also learning the importance of cooperation, taking turns, and sharing ideas with their friends.

It was wonderful to see their curiosity and determination as they proudly said, “Look what I made!”

He kai kei aku ringa – There is food at the end of my hands.

Our little builders are learning that with creativity, persistence, and teamwork, they can make amazing things!

Puanani Room: Our babies have been deeply engaged in rich heuristic play experiences this week — exploring pine‑cone painting with orange, white, and green to celebrate Indian Independence Day, as well as investigating scarves, balls, and large boxes. The children showed strong learning dispositions such as curiosity, creativity, confidence, and joyful engagement. These actions reflect their growing perseverance, focus, and emerging problem‑solving skills as they test ideas, explore textures, and discover what their bodies and hands can do. Their choices and movements show how capable they are as they explore materials in their own way.

We create a learning environment where children feel free to explore, experiment, and express themselves— growing as capable, confident learners through play.
