Filipino Language Week - Tumbang Preso

During Filipino Language Week, the tamariki were introduced to Tumbang Preso, a well‑loved traditional Filipino street game where players try to knock down a can using a small slipper. As I explained the rules and demonstrated how to play, the tamariki were eager to listen and showed great interest. They practised making a line, waited patiently for their turn, and followed each step with enthusiasm. Through aiming and kicking, they explored a fun part of Filipino culture while strengthening their concentration, self‑regulation, and confidence in group play.

Managing Self - showing focus, waiting, and taking turns with others.

Exploration | Mana Aotūroa G3 - Tamariki develop working theories about how games work as they practise aiming, kicking, following rules, and taking turns.

They learn to focus, manage themselves in a group, and build confidence as they participate in a cultural game from the Philippines.

This month, the Pōhutakawa Room has been focusing on the exciting world of space! 🌙✨ Our tamariki have been involved in many meaningful and hands-on activities that have support their understanding of planets, stars, the moon, astronauts and our amazing universe.
Through art, sensory play, stories, experiments, creative exploration and imaginative play, our tamariki have been encouraged to ask questions, share their ideas and discover more about the world beyond our own

Hi, we are currently learning about literacy and numeracy in the Maire room. Our children were keen to find shapes around the centre and point to pictures they can recognise, like the alphabet, shapes, and numbers. Please continue to challenge them around the house or when you are doing the groceries to play I Spy regarding their interests. Thank you.

***Teamwork on the Tracks***

The tamariki enjoyed exploring the tracks, trains, and cars together working side by side to build long roads and busy stations. They practised sharing the vehicles, taking turns, and helping each other connect the pieces.

This play supported their teamwork, communication, and growing confidence in playing alongside others.
