Meet Our Incredible Mamaku (babies) Team!
Our baby room is led by our wonderful Head Teacher Lica and her dedicated team of amazing kaiako/teachers who bring experience, warmth, and genuine care to each and every day. A few of these wonderful teachers have been with us since we first opened our doors 10 years ago, and together they have created a nurturing environment where our youngest learners feel safe, loved, and supported.
As primary caregivers, they build strong, trusting relationships with our babies and their whānau, providing the consistency and connection that is so important in those early years. Many of our teachers are mums themselves, bringing not only professional knowledge but also a deep understanding of the love, patience, and care that babies need to thrive.
Thank you to our Baby Team for the love, care, and nurturing they provide every single day 💕👶

"Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu."
Adorn the bird with feathers so it may fly.
At Mt Wellies, play is so much more than fun—it's how children make sense of the world around them. Through play, tamariki develop problem-solving skills, creativity, confidence, communication, and social connections. Every block tower, imaginative adventure, messy art project, and outdoor exploration is an opportunity for learning and growth.
Play allows children to follow their curiosity, take risks, discover new ideas, and build important life skills in a way that is meaningful and enjoyable.
By providing rich play experiences, nurturing relationships, and supportive environments, we give our tamariki the tools they need to unfold naturally as learners!

Our Rata Classroom (preschool, 3.5 - 5 years) is an engaging learning environment designed to support each child’s transition to primary school and beyond! ❤⭐
Throughout the day, our tamariki are immersed in meaningful literacy and numeracy experiences through hands-on projects, intentional activities, group learning, storytelling, writing time, problem-solving, and creative exploration. These opportunities are thoughtfully woven into play-based learning to encourage confidence, curiosity, and independence.
Whether they are exploring books, creating art, investigating nature, building with friends, or discovering early maths concepts through play, every moment is an opportunity for learning, growth, and belonging.
We are proud to provide a space where children can learn through play, develop school readiness skills, and flourish at their own pace while honouring their unique strengths and identity ❤⭐

Life in our Pohutukawa (toddlers) room is full of energy, curiosity, big emotions, fast feet, and lots of fun and adventures!
Toddlers are natural explorers with adventurous spirits and strong willed independence, and we absolutely love supporting them as they learn about the world around them. In our toddler room, no two days are ever the same!
We know that being a toddler is hard with all those big feelings, but it is such an important stage of development. We support our tamariki through all the excitement, challenges, and milestones with patience, kindness, and encouragement every step of the way.

At Mt Wellies, we love the beautiful friendships and learning that grow through tuakana-teina ❤
Tuakana-teina is a Māori concept that describes the relationship between an older or more experienced child (tuakana) and a younger or less experienced child (teina). Through this relationship, children learn with and from one another through support, encouragement, guidance, and shared experiences.
Within our ECE Curriculum, Te Whāriki, these relationships are an important part of children’s learning and development. Older tamariki develop leadership, empathy, and confidence, while younger tamariki feel supported, included, and inspired to explore and learn.
Whether it’s helping a friend complete a puzzle, showing kindness during play, or learning new skills together, our tamariki demonstrate the importance of caring relationships every day ❤

Pink Shirt Day!
Last Friday was all about standing together against bullying and choosing kindness, respect, and inclusion every single day. Mt Wellies was a sea of pink!
Pink Shirt Day reminds us that even small acts of kindness can make a huge difference.
Here are a few simple ways we can help stop bullying:
💗 Speak up when we see bullying happening
💗 Include others and make everyone feel welcome
💗 Choose kind words and actions
💗 Support friends who may be struggling
💗 Spread positivity online and offline
Together, we can create safer, kinder spaces where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported. 🌸
