🇳🇿 He travelled to New Zealand with a suitcase full of dreams… but returned to Sri Lanka with those dreams shattered.
Like many students, he hoped to complete his studies, build a successful career and create a better future in New Zealand. Soon after arriving, he found work with a logistics company—a physically demanding job that involved lifting heavy items.
Unfortunately, a previous spinal condition became worse. Within a short period, he developed serious pain and long-term difficulty walking. His studies, career plans and hopes for a future in New Zealand suddenly came to an end.
During this difficult time, the SouthernFerns New Zealand team stood beside him—helping arrange medical appointments, access appropriate doctors and navigate the next steps. When he eventually had to return to Sri Lanka, we also supported him with his campus refund and insurance claim, helping him recover a significant portion of his expenses.
Although some of the money was recovered, his New Zealand dream could not be recovered.
This true story carries an important message: before going overseas, consider not only your course, visa and finances, but also your health and physical fitness. A person accustomed to office work in Sri Lanka may need to perform physically demanding work overseas. If you have spinal, knee or other medical conditions, seek appropriate medical advice and understand your physical limitations before making the journey.
A visa may take you to another country—but proper preparation protects your health, your future and your dreams.
