🌺🏝️ Friday Afternoon Assembly, Island Tropical Theme! 🏝️🌺

What a fantastic way to finish the week at Sylvia Park School!

This week’s Friday Afternoon Assembly had everyone feeling the Island Tropical vibes, with colourful outfits, energetic performances, and plenty of smiles all around.

A huge congratulations to Room 1, who hosted assembly for the very first time. They did an outstanding job and were wonderfully supported by their amazing Room 20 buddies. It was fantastic to see our older and younger students working together with such confidence and enthusiasm.

The assembly was packed with dancing, sing-alongs, audience participation, and incredible energy from start to finish. The effort that students put into their costumes and performances helped create a truly memorable afternoon for our school community.

Congratulations also to Maungarei House, who were crowned this week’s House Competition winners! 🏆👏

We are so proud of our tamariki and the way they continue to support, encourage, and celebrate one another.

Check out what has been happening in rūma tahi this week!

Room 1 has had another fantastic week! We have spent lots of time practising for our assembly and are so excited to be hosting our very first one. Everyone has been working incredibly hard to learn their lines, practise their performance, and build their confidence. We can't wait to share all of our hard work with our whānau and the rest of the school on Friday!

This week in maths, we have been learning about numbers to 5 and have begun exploring our number bonds to 5. We have enjoyed using hands-on activities to help us understand the different ways numbers can be made. We have also loved spending time reading and taking our handwriting practice outside to enjoy the sunshine while working on forming our letters correctly.

What a fantastic day of rugby at the EZ Rugby Union tournament!

Our boys showed incredible determination, sportsmanship, and resilience throughout a challenging day of competition. Facing strong opposition from Dilworth, Sacred Heart, Point England, and Bailey Road, they consistently kept their composure, played with integrity, and represented our school with pride.

While the results didn't quite go our way, the team never gave up. They continued to support one another, work hard, and give their absolute best right through to the final whistle.

We are incredibly proud of the way they conducted themselves on and off the field. Their effort, attitude, and perseverance were outstanding and are a true reflection of our school values. Ka mau te wehi, boys!

Check out what has been happening in rūma tekau mā tahi this week!

Kia ora, koutou!

Throughout the week we have been learning to add āhua or tino to extend our description of how we are feeling e.g. ‘Kei te tino harikoa ahau’ - I am really happy. In Pāngarau we have been learning about different transformations of shapes e.g. translation, rotation, reflection and enlargement. Using our knowledge of transformations we have been designing our own kōwhaiwhai patterns. In Pānui we have been making connections between ourselves and our text. Tuhituhi has us explaining our mid-year SPS experience. We have agreed that our classmates make our class bustling with energy, the staff members make us feel safe and our favourite learning experience has been math. In Pakirehua we are designing our board game that has been inspired by the classic Snakes and Ladders game, but we’re going to add in an Uno twist! We’re calling it ‘The Great Space Race’.

A glorious winter's day for TC rugby league at Pt England Reserve. The year 5-6 boys team gave everything they had and genuinely played with an awesome spirit in every game. A special shout out to Vili for a double digit try haul. Sport was most definitely the winner on the day. A huge shout out to ARL for outstanding event organisation including refereeing, and for their tackle clinics. It was noticeable how much safer tackling was. Well done everyone!
