The talent, energy, pride and passion on display were truly something special. You could feel the faka’apa’apa, loto-to’a and māfana throughout the hall!

A massive Mālō ‘aupito to Miss Leuii, Mr Lam, Fofo, Monica and Ana for the time, dedication and love you have poured into tutoring and supporting our dancers. Your mahi made this spectacular celebration possible!

Today was more than just incredible performances, it was a beautiful celebration of our Tongan culture, language and community, and the wonderful impact our Tongan whānau have on the heart and identity of our school.

We are so proud of you all!

This week in Room 20, we explored lots of exciting learning!

In Maths, we introduced probability as a measure of likelihood. We used a probability scale, then investigated what happens when rolling two dice and adding the totals. We noticed some numbers appeared more often than others, we investigated this by creating towers and explored why certain outcomes are more likely.

In Reading, we learnt about Hākaraia, a significant Māori leader, and analysed how he showed leadership while making connections to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

In Writing and Inquiry, we researched different New Zealand political parties, sorting and synthesising information to compare their policies and priorities. We then used our research to write a neutral informational report without giving our own opinions.

Overall, it has been a great week of investigating, questioning, comparing and making connections across our learning.

For Writing we created narrative stories with a Twist in the Tale by changing the endings to capture our audience. In Inquiry for sort and synthesise, we explored 2 leaders, e.g. a Lawyer and Pilot and discussed what jobs they did as leaders. We also did lots of fun statistical activities during Maths week. Our investigation question was, what is your favourite pet? First we did a tally chart, then presented our data on a bar graph, pictograph and pie graph. Students chose to work in pairs or groups of 3 to design and present their work to the class. Finally we asked questions to interpret the graphs. Learning truly came alive in Room 9 as students' confidence grew.

Ngā mihi matakuikui ki a koutou katoa

This week we have been practising our performance for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori with all of Te Puna Waiora. During this time we have learnt about many rangatira Māori who have played a part in the revitalisation of te reo Māori. We have begun making props to use during our performance as well. In Pāngarau we have begun looking at ways to analyse the data we collected in last week's statistical investigation. In Tuhituhi we have been doing narrative writing. This week we chose a picture to inspire our narrative writing and we also have a checklist we are working through to make sure we include all parts of a narrative text.

🏉☀️ What a fantastic day of Rippa Rugby!

Yesterday, our Year 5–8 students hit the field for an action-packed day of Rippa Rugby — and what a day it was! 🌟🏉

With the sun shining ☀️, our students brought plenty of energy, enthusiasm and determination to every game.

Our students showed what it means to be great teammates — supporting one another, encouraging each other, playing fairly and showing outstanding sportsmanship both on and off the field. 👏💙

There were some fantastic skills, exciting games, plenty of tries and lots of smiles along the way! 😄🙌

A huge well done to all our Year 5–8 players for representing our school so proudly. You gave it your all and made it a day to remember! 🏉⭐

Today, we were honoured to welcome the incredible one and only Dame Valerie Adams as our special guest in celebration of Tongan Language Week! 🇹🇴
Having a legend of her stature join us to celebrate and honour Tongan culture, heritage, and language was an unforgettable experience for everyone present. Dame Valerie isn’t just an inspiration to the Pasifika community—she is one of the most dominant and decorated shot putters in track and field history. 🥇🏆

Please find shared the draw and venue map for the Tamaki Cluster year 5 and 6 rippa tournament happening at Mt Wellington War Memorial Reserve, Dunkirk Road, Panmure tomorrow (Wednesday 19th August). The students in these teams know who they are. Please remember that students must play with a mouthguard and they must have shoes to play in.
