The Subtleties of Baby Sleep (4 Important Things To Know) - Janet Lansbury 15/02/2022

This is such a great read!

The Subtleties of Baby Sleep (4 Important Things To Know) - Janet Lansbury “The word ‘sleep’ wakes up even the sleepiest baby.” – Magda Ge**er, Your Self-Confident Baby Magda Ge**er’s assertion might seem far-fetched, but recent scientific studies (by Gopnik, Bloom, Spelke and others) are proving what Ge**er understood more than half a century ago: our infants ...

No Your Baby Shouldn't Be Lounging In These

There's been a lot of questions about the latest rule change for "sleepers" and here's why I'm especially focusing on the DocAtot (and related: Snuggle me, etc.). They use the term "loungers" to skirt lawsuits while absolutely marketing themselves for baby sleep. DocAtot especially did an incredible job of using IG influencers to clearly convey what a wonderful sleep product they were while sliding around the issue in their own marketing materials. It was intentionally sneaky and frankly gross.

Here's what you need to know:
- These products are not and have never been safe.

- They are pillows. "Breathable" does not mean "does not
accumulate Carbon Dioxide" - most bedding is "breathable" (and yet still not safe for infant use).

- Adding a "lounger" to a crib or co-sleeping situation makes it less, not more safe. (These have been long advertised as safer than co-sleeping alone)

- The new rule does not go into effect for a full year which means all these "sleeper" products will remain on the market, positioned AS "safe for sleep" until spring 2022.

While other products are included in this rule change these loungers are the largest product category by far.

We know they are incredibly popular and are recommended to MANY new parents. If you're using one we are not here to pile on parental guilt - we are here to help ❤

If you have the book come join the free FB group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/troublesometots)and ask for help weaning off your lounger. If you are nervous (don't be!) you can post anonymously for help/strategies/support!

Who heard this myth?

Cuddles with my big girl before I head to my overnight consult.

This bub is 3 months old, waking 1-2 hourly overnight and is sleeping in her parent’s bed.

I did an overnight with this family 3 years ago, when their first child was 16 weeks old! So it will be lovely to see them again 🥰

Stay tuned - I’ll keep updating my story through the night 😴

Fitbit stats from last night.

Pleased I got another wee bit of sleep after I got home 💤💤

See my story for an update of how the first night went!

Just arrived at the first overnight visit of 3 in a row! I’m working exclusively with this family for 2 weeks with 4 days in a row of in home visits, then every second day until our 2 weeks is up!

Baby did incredibly well at lunchtime today during our first visit, so I’m hoping that sets us in good stead for tonight...

Watch this space and wish me luck! (And sleep)😴😴😴

Tummy bugs on holiday 🤮 how on earth we have managed to catch this is beyond me.. the girls haven’t been at daycare for over 2 weeks 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m touching wood that I haven’t caught it and so thankful that we aren’t holidaying alone!!

Hubby is on the Powerade and Sadie on Pedialyte.. cross your fingers for me that it’s just a 24 hour bug 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Rager of a night happening here 😅

While my nights out on the town have long passed, overnight consultations usually result in about the same amount of sleep!

Tonight I’m with a 2.5 year old and his family, who are looking for some guidance and support in transitioning him to independent sleep.

This is a really big move to make, going from cuddling to sleep, to falling asleep with independence, and this wee pocket rocket absolutely smashed his first bedtime 🥳

We chatted about how it went, discussed a plan going forward and now I’m typing it up and eating my dinner before we all try and get some sleep in preparation for his wake ups tonight!

Absolutely love overnight consultations. They are tiring, but it’s incredible how quickly we can make progress after a night of total consistency 😴

Up with the birds this morning when I was leaving my overnight consult 😴

These consultations are so rewarding, seeing the surprise and relief on the parents’ faces, when they realize their child isn’t broken, and that this IS going to work!!

A full night spent with an awesome mum and dad and their 13 month old energizer bunny. This toddler did SO well during his first night of sleep training, as did his parents 👨‍👩‍👦

We went from feeding and rocking to sleep for 45 minutes+ at bedtime, and bedsharing from when he woke up around midnight, to falling asleep in his cot within 30 minutes at bedtime, a quick resettle around 10.30pm and a wake up for a small feed at 4.30am, in just one night!

I can’t wait to see where we end up in a weeks time 🥳

Some lovely reviews from the past week 🥰🥰

Thank you to these parents for trusting me with the wee one’s sleep! It’s really a privilege to work with the families who seek my help.
