✨ Matariki Celebration 2026 at Pitter Patter✨

The theme for Matariki 2026 is “Matariki Herenga Waka” – “Matariki, the mooring place of many canoes”, meaning “Matariki for everyone.” Inspired by the whakataukī “Tāmaki Herenga Waka,” this year’s theme celebrates inclusion, diversity, and bringing people from all backgrounds together to share traditions, stories, and food. We were proud to embrace this beautiful theme at Pitter Patter by celebrating both Māori culture and the many cultures that make up our centre community.

A heartfelt thank you to all the whānau who joined us wearing their beautiful cultural attire, shared stories about their home countries, and delighted us with traditional songs and dance performances. Your enthusiasm and willingness to share your cultures made the day truly memorable.

To finish our celebration, families kindly brought delicious cultural dishes from their home countries for everyone to enjoy. It was wonderful to see tamariki, whānau, and kaiako coming together to share food, laughter, and meaningful connections.

Ngā mihi nui to everyone who helped make our Matariki celebration such a joyful and enriching experience. Together, we celebrated diversity, belonging, and the true spirit of Matariki.

✨ Matariki Herenga Waka – Matariki for everyone. ✨

🌍✨ Celebrating Argentina & Netherlands Language Week! 🇦🇷🇳🇱

What a wonderful week of cultural learning and celebration! Our tamariki had the privilege of welcoming Vichenzo Continillo’s whānau to our centre.

A heartfelt thank you to Vichenzo’s mum for sharing fascinating information about the cultures, traditions, and languages of both the Netherlands and Argentina. The children loved learning a few Tango dance steps from Argentina, tasting delicious Dutch cookies, and enjoying beautiful cupcakes decorated with the flags of both countries.

These authentic experiences help our tamariki develop an appreciation for different cultures and strengthen our partnership with whānau. Thank you, Vichenzo’s family, for your generosity, time, and for making this celebration so meaningful and memorable for everyone. ❤️

🌺 Happy Samoan Language Week! 🌺

This week, we proudly celebrated Samoan Language Week with our tamariki, learning about and embracing the rich culture, traditions, and language of Samoa.

A special thank you to SJ (Sagato Jacob)’s parents for visiting our centre and generously sharing their knowledge about Samoan culture, customs, and important cultural values. SJ’s mum also taught our tamariki a beautiful Samoan song and kindly brought delicious pancakes for everyone to enjoy.

On Friday, our tamariki were excited to celebrate by singing, dancing, and enjoying Samoan music with their friends.

Fa’afetai tele lava to SJ’s whānau for your precious time, support, and contribution to our learning journey. We truly appreciate your involvement and partnership with our centre.

HAPPY ANZAC DAY 🌺
Kaiako and tamariki worked collaboratively to create a wreath using handmade poppy flowers and leaves, in memory of the soldiers who served and sacrificed their lives. This shared activity supported contribution | mana tangata, as children worked together with a sense of purpose. It also nurtured dispositions of cooperation, respect, and understanding of caring for others and remembering important people.

🌏💚 Little Hands, Big Impact! 💚🌏

Our tamariki had a wonderful time creating this beautiful Earth poster alongside their kaiako. Together, they explored the importance of caring for our planet and symbolically joined hands around the Earth to show unity and responsibility in protecting it. 🌿

Through this meaningful experience, children are learning that even small actions can make a big difference in keeping our Earth safe and healthy for everyone. 🌱✨
