We operate from a private, custom built facility in Wai o Taiki bay. Our building is modern, spacious and caters for 3 months - 5 year old children.

We are happy to welcome you to Bumblebees Childcare Centre and to our Community of Learning. We focus on the importance of our relationships with our children and their whānau. The toddlers are getting ready for our exciting trip to Kelly Tarlton’s next month! 🐠🐙🦈💙
Through this ocean-themed sensory play, the tamariki are exploring different sea creatures and their habitats while building their curiosity and knowledge about the world around them. 🌊✨
They are also developing their fine-motor skills, language, imagination and social skills as they share ideas, explore the sensory materials and engage in meaningful play together.
We can’t wait to continue our learning and see some of these amazing sea creatures up close at Kelly Tarlton’s! 🐟🪼🐢

🌊 Our toddler tamariki have been learning about animals under the sea. They have been exploring this through art and craft and their sea wall looks incredible! They cannot wait for their trip to Kelly Tarltons next month!

✨ What are they learning? ✨
* 🐠 Creativity and self-expression – making choices about colours, materials, shapes and how their sea animal looks.

* ✂️ Fine motor skills – cutting, gluing, painting, drawing and manipulating small craft materials strengthen hand and finger muscles.

* 🧠 Cognitive development – thinking about what sea animals look like, where they live and what makes each animal different.

* 🌊 Science and nature knowledge – developing an understanding of ocean life, habitats and different sea creatures.

* 🗣️ Language and communication – talking about their creations, learning new vocabulary such as ocean, habitat, fins, tentacles, scales and describing what they have made.

* 🤝 Social skills – sharing resources, working alongside others, discussing ideas and helping each other.

* 🔢 Early maths concepts – exploring shapes, sizes, patterns, counting features such as tentacles or fins, and comparing animals.

* 🎨 Sensory exploration – experiencing different textures and materials such as paint, paper, sand, shells or natural resources.

* 💪 Persistence and problem-solving – working out how to attach pieces, create particular shapes or adapt their ideas when something doesn’t work

Team work makes the dream work - to see who can dig the biggest hole!

So much learning is happening too

* 🤝 Social skills – cooperating, sharing tools, negotiating roles and working towards a common goal.
* 💬 Communication and language – talking about what they’re doing, sharing ideas, asking questions and explaining their plans.
* 🧠 Problem-solving – working out how to make the hole bigger/deeper, what to do when the sand collapses, and how to use different tools effectively.
* 💪 Physical development – strengthening arms, shoulders and hands through digging, scooping, lifting and carrying.
* ✋ Fine-motor skills – developing hand strength, coordination and control when using spades, buckets and other sand tools.
* 🔢 Early mathematical thinking – exploring concepts such as deep/shallow, big/small, full/empty, more/less, heavy/light and comparing the size of holes.
* 🔬 Scientific thinking – discovering how sand behaves, what happens when it is wet or dry, and cause-and-effect relationships.
* 🎨 Creativity and imagination – turning the holes into tunnels, ponds, animal homes, construction sites or whatever their play develops into.
* 🏆 Persistence and resilience – continuing to try when the sand falls back in or their plans don’t work.
* 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Belonging and contribution – experiencing the satisfaction of creating something together and seeing their ideas valued by the group.

🇻🇺 Vanuatu Language Week 🇻🇺

Today we spent some time learning about Vanuatu Language Week with the help of our wonderful cook, Lisa, who shared some of her knowledge and traditions with us. 💛

If your child comes home from Bumblebees talking about any of these things, here’s what we learned:

🥁 Tam Tam (long wooden slit drum) – We learned that the tam tam is used to communicate important messages around the village. Different drum calls can mean different things, such as calling everyone together or sharing important news.

👰 Bridal veil – Lisa shared that the bridal veil is worn during marriage ceremonies as a symbol of respect for the bride and, in some traditions, means she should not be touched before the ceremony.

🪘 Traditional ankle rattles – We discovered that these are often worn by men during celebrations and cultural dances. As they move, the ankle rattles create rhythmic sounds that are an important part of the performance.

👗 Traditional clothing – We also talked about traditional clothing and learned that many mothers wear these beautiful dresses in village life.

A huge thank you to Lisa for taking the time to share a little of her culture with us today. Experiences like these help our tamariki learn about and appreciate the many different cultures that make up our Bumblebees whānau. We love giving our children opportunities to learn from the people in our own community! 🇻🇺💚

Spreading love this Valentine’s Day! 💗

Our preschoolers have loved engaging in some baking learning about following a recipe, mixing together the ingredients, taking turns and patiently waiting for their cookies to bake before they decorated them! 💕
