It's been a while since I've posted on here. In all honesty, I haven't stepped back into this place for a while. It had become a space that triggered me 😩 its crazy how a space that is so beautiful and magical could be clouded with memories of a time that brought so much devastation to me. It will always remind me of our education system, the Ministry of Education and their inability to be exactly that, it will remind me of a time where I decided to leave early childhood education and not teach again in this sector.

The great thing is, I have actually made peace with it all. I am happy that I am no longer part of a sector dictated by people who sit behind desks and pretend they studied lots to get their job 👀

I have accepted that it was all meant to be. I have learned what I am capable of. So, in saying that, we will be putting this unique place up for sale to anyone who may want to continue this project. Remove the roof over the playground area and get it network approved and licensed.

It will be sold as is, with all the equipment, resources, and furniture.

So, we are still finding ways to tackle our issues. Have had a few consultants come through, and they don't understand why the Ministry of Education has declined our space 🤷‍♀️

A common theme is that there is much inconsistency in their processes. That's something we have always known.

So we are looking for solutions that might help us to sell our space, and we are okay with that. We won't be missing the sector and the red tape it comes with.

On another note, we are establishing and making progress towards our new project. Something we can do without any dictating from Govt agencies.

Not to mention the ECE teachers leaving the sector in droves too. Soon parents will be forced to leave their jobs to care for their young children because there aren't enough teachers. Ministry of Education NZ don't track this data because they simply don't care. They are an organization that is founded on checklists, crap regulations, ridiculous criteria and employ people who are not teachers, not to mention people who have lost their practicing certificates in NZ because of abuse towards children 👀 more on that one at a later time.

So I'm sure everyone has been chatting about the Govt budget that was announced yesterday.

Most parents are probably excited that their 2yr olds get to have 20hrs free ece, and from a teacher that's great for them, but there is a down side to it all that many don't see for centre's and kaiako.

There are criteria for us in regards to this. We get funded whatever rate the Govt funds for 2yr olds, which most times are less than many centres hourly fee rates. Centre's are only funded a ratio of 1 kaiako per 10 tamariki, which means no quality and lots of pressure while on the floor. Education might be less, and Supervision will be the main focus (basically child minding/babysitting) and centre's are not allowed to charge their normal fee to increase or improve these ratios.

There are more conditions centre's have to meet, but these are a few. We know it's a good P.R stunt to get votes, but to any upside, there is always a downside. So just be kind to our kaiako if you are a parent, there are always restrictions and demands placed on them that aren't good for their wellbeing.

Happy for parents for sure, but the ece sector continues to be on a landslide downturn 💔

It's anti bullying week this week. Kaiako all around Aotearoa will be teaching tamariki about what bullying is, what it looks like, and how bullying is not good behavior.

This needs to filter into the world of adults also. Many kaiako experience a culture of bullying in their workplace, and it is not okay!

We experience bullying from governing agencies who think it is okay to exercise their "authority" to belittle and deflate us.

When you affect the wellbeing and mental/physical state of another, you need to check yourself.

If Govt agencies did this oft, we wouldn't have such a failure of an education system.

Don't be a bully guys, it's not cool ✌️

Humanity exists because there are mothers.

It's hard stepping into this space. It's amazing. I can't understand how it doesn't provide quality opportunities for learning. We know it's because it's different. It feels like grief. Trying to make your mind and heart let go and move on. I am also reminded that I did this. All of it. Every, single, detail, because I know in my authentic teacher self, that it's the best opportunity for learning and children are deserving of it. I will sit here, however, as hard as it is and accept my emotions. I will grieve, and then I will be done. It is with heavy hearts that we have decided not to continue at this point and time to become an early learning service. With all the unjust limitations the Ministry of Education has continuously dealt us, we feel it is not a space that we would like to continue in.

Being passionate educators here in Aotearoa have always been a part of myself and my partner, and we are sad that we don't get to share this within a village we had hoped to establish.

However, we want to continue to share our passion, knowledge, and talents in our own way. Therefore, we have decided to become a supplier and provider of educational resources, PLD+Consultancy service in areas we are confident in, Concept + Interior design for Education services wanting an upgrade in their space or newly built services as well as providing our space for hire.

I started designing my own resources a couple of years ago, and this situation has enabled me to bring my old design book out and make it happen. So they are being made as we speak.

This decision has been made with a lot of thought, tears, and heartbreak. Please bear with us as we transition our platforms for rebranding to suit.

So this is how we will contribute to a sector that is struggling. We are here to support and improve it with our home away from home philosophy that learning can happen anywhere and in any environment, if it is meaningful, purposeful, + real.
