Patience, patience and more patience.

Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily.

Life begets life. Built into us is the desire to produce (good or bad). We were created to produce, tend or do! Nothing could be more natural. However; critical to producing, is the timing and that requires faith and patience.
Some of us are better at waiting than others, and yet acting hastily is tempered by the inner witness of when.

Patience and Trust: People who put their faith in God do not need to panic, stress, or rush out of fear.

Stability: Comes from a firm spiritual foundation. Such a foundation brings inner calm and helps us stay steady during hard times instead of acting impulsively.

God’s Timing: As believers, we learn to wait on God rather than trying to force outcomes with anxious, hurried efforts.

Easier said than done! Yet God is both within and outside of time, so we can be sure that He fully knows our schedule, and part of our growth is to rest in that.

Is it Scripture, or politics that shapes our worldview.

Consider this quote: “Nothing is more plain from Scripture, or better supported by daily experience, than that man by nature is, in fact, incapable of recovery [from his sinful state] without the power of God specially interposed.” John Witherspoon

Today more than any time in history, politics surrounds most every decision made. It influences faith, it directs the economy, it determines who and what we pay in taxes, and above all what we think, are allowed to think, and what we say as being politically correct. Even our humour today is regulated by politics.

This is why its important to filter our politics, through the cleansing power of Gods word. Politics will come from every possible angle to establish its purpose, Gods word comes from one. "Immutable truth". It establishes justice, righteousness, mercy, grace and upholds His will.

It may not be popular in politics, but it was given to shape our worldview.

Who determines our healing?

“‘See now that I, even I, am he,
and there is no god beside me;
I kill and I make alive;
I wound and I heal;
and there is none that can deliver out of my hand. Deut 32:39

Scripture leaves us in no doubt who has the prerogative to heal.
Natural disease may be instrumentally healed by men, but even then the honour is to be given to God who grants wisdom to doctors and bestows power to enable the human frame to cast off disease.

Jehovah-Rophi, “the Lord who heals you.” “I will heal your wounds”.
Whatever your disease may be, this Great Physician can heal you. If He is God, there can be no limit to His power.

Our greatest spiritual disease is spiritual. From which all our ailments flow.
Psalm 103:3 who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,

Let us pursue wholeness in all its forms and rejoice in the wounds that heal.

In recent weeks, I have been part of several groups who have cheated death. The conversations we have, make real sense. In times gone by my perspective may well have been different.

One individual who was struggling to make sense of his rehabilitation said, "we all died and were not meant to come back from that". (referring to the heart being stopped for 5+ hours).
I have to admit, life has changed for us all.

Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God. Psalm 31:5

The believer's interest in life and death, is not his body or his possessions but his spirit.

As a believer commits his soul to the hand of God; it came from Him, it is His own, He has until now sustained it, He is able to keep it, and it is fitting that He should receive it.

At all times we should commit everything to Jesus' faithful hand; then even if life should hang on a thread, and difficulties multiply like the sands of the sea, our soul shall live in safety and delight itself in quiet resting places.

“You have redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God.” Redemption is a solid basis for confidence.
David did not know Calvary as we do, but even as redemption cheered him, so our eternal redemption will sweetly console us.

"Your God is too small".

J.B. Phillips writes in his book Your God Is Too Small, “Many men and women today are living, often with an inner dissatisfaction, without any faith in God at all … They have not found with their adult minds a God big enough to ‘account for’ life.”

The Apostle Paul, when faced with a hill full of stoics and philosophers on Mars hill, he raised that thought in a meaningful way.

Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens … [what] you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you.”
Acts 17:22–23-31

Paul laid claim in his address to five key facts which set THE GOD from THEIR GOD. We could do well to apply the same narrative to highlight Gods character and nature to those who "know not God." Paul did so by identifying five key aspects of His nature:

1. God is the Creator. He made the world, while He Himself is uncreated, standing distinct from His creation and outside of time. He is not a force—not even the greatest force of all—nor can He be contained or manipulated into a form of our own design.

2. God is the Sustainer. He is the one who gives life and breath. The Sustainer of life is not served by human hands, nor does He have need of sustenance.

3. God is the Ruler. He commands the nations. History, geography, governments—the whole universe!—are under His control. No event takes our God by surprise; He sweeps into His purposes even the sinful acts of man. Furthermore, as Ruler, He has put everybody in a certain place, in a moment in history, that we might seek Him, find Him, and praise His holy name.

4. God is the Father. Men and women are His “offspring” (Acts 17:28) and, in the sense that He has given life to each human, starting with Adam, He is every human’s Father (Luke 3:38). He has created each of us in His image. We are moral beings, made with a sense of right and wrong, and we are able truly to flourish only in relationship with Him.

5. God is the Judge. He has authority over all the earth. There will be a judgment day that is fair and final, when every injustice will be dealt with and all wrongs be put right. Indeed, God has already intervened in His Son Jesus, and in Jesus’ resurrection He has declared Jesus’ divine appointment as Judge. It is God’s kindness and forbearance that announces judgment so that before then we might repent and find forgiveness from Him.

Indeed; God is big enough for those whose god is too small.

More than a fishy story.

The Lord God appointed a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be a shade over his head, to save him from his discomfort. So Jonah was exceedingly glad because of the plant. But when dawn came up the next day, God appointed a worm that attacked the plant, so that it withered. Jonah 4:6-7

Most people define the story of Jonah with being swallowed by a big fish. Of course that part is key in the story, BUT there is far more to it, that rarely gets taught.

Patterns are important in scripture, for they amplify the truth being conveyed. A bit like learning your times tables at school; repetition is fundamental to learning.

Whether its the prodigal son, the good Samaritan, Peters denial, or the church at Laodicea; they all convey life lessons to direct our pathway.

The book of Jonah has some principles which underpin the story.

1. You cannot outrun a calling:
Trying to escape your responsibilities or direction only creates chaos for you and the people around you.

2. Grace has no boundaries:
God’s compassion extends even to those we dislike, disagree with, or consider our enemies.

3. Prejudice blinds us:
Jonah became angry because God showed mercy to the wicked people of Nineveh; the story warns us against acting as gatekeepers of forgiveness.

4. It is safe to be honest:
God listens and responds with gentle patience, even when we wrestle with anger, disappointment, or doubt.

5. Second chances are real:
No matter how far someone strays or how badly they fail, genuine reflection and changing direction (repentance) opens the door to personal renewal.

“I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy” (Exodus 33:19).

The story of Jonah has many applications for you and I. It highlights the willfulness and stubbornness' we show when things don't go our way. When we think we know better than we should.

There is a critical point God raised with Jonah that brings things into perspective.

And [Jonah] prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and relenting from disaster…” And the Lord said, “Do you do well to be angry?” Jonah 4:2-4

In response to Jonah’s reaction, the Lord did not ask him if he was angry but whether he had a right to be angry!

Here's the thing; when we have lived long enough to experience success, failure, and disappointment, we have also lived long enough to appreciate the faithfulness of God and His undeserved grace.

Jonah (despite experiencing Gods grace), is still making excuses for his willfulness. Knowing Gods character and nature neither gave him (nor us) the right to be angry.

Divine grace towards sinners can never be adequately explained. It does not have a reason; it simply reflects who God is.

Knowing this, what right do we have to be angry with God?

So who's in charge? Jonah 1:3-4

One of the most fabled statements we use to define the believers commitment to Christ is "Is either lord of all or not at all". At first hearing it sounds smart, clever, and even true; but in fact its far from true! Christ IS Lord, whether you believe it or not.

The very root of that statement assures us the WE are not Lord of all creation, that WE cannot Make Jesus Lord of lives, when in fact he neither needs our approval nor permission to BE LORD! He JUST IS! The pertinent question to ask is "do we know that".

God is "LORD OF ALL CREATION"
The WINDS
The SEAS
The CREATED ORDER
The EBB and LEE of the TIDES
The NUMBER of STARS and THEIR NAMES
The APPOINTED PLANT Jonah 4:6-8
The APPOINTED WORM
The APPOINTED SCORCHING WIND.

Time and again we are fed ideologies which are intent on weakening and clouding our perception of who is in charge.

In the same way, we are confronted by the notion that “Mother Nature” is an untamable and merciless force. Exacting judgement as an indiscriminate god. But the truth is that all things, including the entire created order, are God’s servants and submit to His bidding. (Psalm 119:91).

So the next time someone refers to "Mother Nature," or "who gets the credit" (Psalm 145:3), just remember "Who is in charge". Psalm 33:7

One of the most unique and foundational truths of Gods word is that it's power does not depend upon our memory to recall it; but on Gods covenant promise.

Whenever we feel week, ill or lacking in our faith, the believer does not have to summon up a realm of belief or faith in order to summon Gods promises. No! We remind our self that it is He (God) that recalls his covenantal promise to us.

I will remember my covenant. Genesis 9:15

Do you see that when the sky darkens, when the things seem at their worst; God remembers.

God's memory, which is infinite and immutable, remembers, when we dont.

God looks through the rain clouds, sees the covenant and remembers.

God never forgets, God is never pre-occupied with the storm, God remembers you and me.

"When . . . the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant." Genesis 9:15
