We are a Catholic School in Howick, Auckland. Our Lady Star of the Sea School was opened in 1847 by Father Garin, with help from Catholic families in the area.

The new school was run by lay teachers until 1904 when the Mission Sisters were asked to send a group of Sisters to live in Howick and help run the school. The Mission Sisters taught in Howick between 1904 and 1924. In 1925, Bishop Cleary invited the Sisters of Mercy to open an Orphanage in Granger Road. Calling All Old Phones! We are Ringing in a Greener Planet

Do you have old unused mobile phones around your home or workplace? Are you looking for a responsible way to dispose of them? We have the answer. We have partnered with Swapkit Mobile Phone Recycling and sustainable coastlines.

Donate an old mobile phone – such a simple act that can help so much.

The RE:MOBILE Mobile Phone Recycling Scheme has raised over $3 million for NZ charities. You too can help preserve our environment for generations to come.

With 69% of New Zealand’s rivers deemed unsafe for swimming after rainfall due to contamination and 75.2% (as per coastal litter surveys up to July 2024) of plastics being the worst offenders in the marine environment, the cleaning up of our water and beaches is important work for us to do for all to enjoy well into the future. The proceeds from the mobile phone recycling scheme helps SustainableCoastlines work towards this long-term vision of beautiful beaches and healthy waters.

Sustainable Coastlines is a multi award winning New Zealand charity run by a small team of hard-working staff, and a network of passionate volunteers and interns. Their mission is to inspire, educate and enable others to look after the natural places we love.

Rummage around for those unwanted mobile phones to donate.

Phones received are graded, data wiped, and sim/memory cards removed and destroyed. Phones that can still be used are sold by tender to offshore businesses that specialise in the resale of second-hand mobile phones. They are refurbished and sold as low-cost handsets to places like Africa and Asia. Phones that have reached their end of life are broken down and recycled in an environmentally friendly way with up-to 95% of their materials being recycled into other products.

Regardless of condition, working or non-working (even pieces missing), make or model, all mobile phones are accepted by the Mobile Phone Recycling Scheme. You can include the cable if you have it, however you can just donate the phone on its own.

The box is located in the reception area. Please help this great initiative if you can.

Kia ora whānau

We have just heard from Bizzy Bodz that, because of very low enrolments, they will not be operating on our Teacher Only Day this coming Tuesday.

Families that have booked have been contacted by Bizzy Bodz.

Happy Kings Birthday weekend everyone - we look forward to seeing you all back on Wednesday 3rd June.
