Very well done to the tamariki of the fourteen primary schools who took part in the Year 6 Proclaiming the Word competition today. The judges had a difficult task, but a clear winner was chosen.
Congratulations to Knight, of Holy Cross School, Henderson, whose reverence, modulation, pace and use of pause and eye contact were all excellent.
We encourage all of these young readers to aim at becoming Ministers of the Word in their schools and in their parishes.

Yesterday (Friday 14th August) was a Truly Blessed & Special Day at SJS, Onehunga 💙🙏☺️
We began our morning with our wonderful Maungakiekie Whānau leading our school Mass. It was a beautiful opportunity for our school community to come together in faith, prayer and celebration. A huge thank you to our Fr Iosefo Timu for celebrating our Mass and our Maungakiekie students and staff for leading our Mass to celebrate our Patronal Feast day - Our Lady of the Assumption. 💙
Following Mass, we were humbled to have Bishop Steve Lowe visit us. Bishop Steve visited each of our classes, taking the time to meet our students, chat with them and answer any questions.
Our students were so excited to see him and loved being able to talk with him and learn more about his role and ministry.
Thank you, Bishop Steve, for taking the time to visit us and for sharing your warmth, wisdom and kindness with our students. Your visit was a real blessing and one that our SJS whānau will remember for many years to come!
Such a beautiful day of faith, community and connection! 🙏💙

All are invited to come and pray with us this coming Friday 14th August at 9:30am to our school Mass.
We celebrate the Feast of our Lady of the Assumption.
On 13 January 1838, one of our school Patrons Bishop Pompallier – the first Catholic Bishop of Aotearoa, dedicated New Zealand to Mary under the title of her Assumption at the first Catholic Mass in Aotearoa.
Mary became the Patron Saint of Aotearoa and remains so today.
We look forward to seeing you this coming Friday.
