Last weekend, we brought you the wonderful news that Fortissimo, our Premier Choir, had done it again—winning a Gold Award at The Big Sing Finale for the third year in a row!

Our young men in green represented the school with incredible passion and heart, also taking home two major national awards:

The Tour Time Cup for Best Performance of a Choral Art Piece (presented by Tour Time founders Beryl and Ron Imrie).

The Big Sing Pasifika Award (jointly awarded with Paradisum, Epsom Girls' Grammar School) for the best performance of a piece in a Pasifika language (judged by Dr Siliva Gaugatao and sponsored by the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Pacific – University of Auckland).

The Big Sing is Aotearoa’s premier secondary school choral festival, featuring over 9,000 students from 280 choirs nationwide. Making it to the top 24 in the Christchurch Finale is an incredible achievement in itself!

A massive congratulations to all of our talented singers, our amazing Director of Choral Music, Mr Jacob Moore, and the NZ Choral Federation for putting on such a fantastic event.

Wishing all our teams the best of luck as they represent us across Aotearoa this week! Here is how the action is unfolding so far:

⚽ 1st XI Football is braving the freezing weather in Dunedin and started strong with 2 wins! They play for 7th & 8th tomorrow!

🏉 U15 Rugby headed down to Wellington yesterday and hit the pitch for their first match today, winning 32-17 against St Bernard’s.

🏀 Premier Basketball came out firing in their opener, taking a 111 - 28 win over Orewa!

🤼 Our Wrestling Team showed grit over the weekend, bringing home two Bronze and one Silver medal!

🏋️‍♂️ 🏉 Weightlifting & Rugby League are gearing up to start their comps later this week.

Our golden singers!

Fortissimo was awarded gold at tonight's Big Sing finale in Christchurch, making it three years in a row for our Premier Choir! They also won the Tour Time Cup for Best Performance of a piece of Choral Art Music, presented by Tour Time founders Beryl and Ron Imrie.

And were jointly awarded the Big Sing Pasifika Award alongside Paradisum, Epsom Girls Grammar.

Huge congratulations to our young men in green and to our Director of Choral Music, Mr Jacob Moore. You fill our hearts with your beautiful sound. We are so proud of you all!

To all the choirs from across Aotearoa who have sung so brilliantly over the past few days – we applaud you all for your passion and dedication.

Recently, our Year 9s had a fun-filled first week of activities on our Learning in the Outdoors (LiTO) programme.

During the week, students rode picturesque trails along the Waikato River and pushed themselves while rock climbing and abseiling at Wharepapa South climbing crag.

Students also worked together to explore Lake Karapiro by kayak, experiencing the magical glowworm canyon as they drifted down the Pōkaiwhenua Stream.

What an exciting week of challenges, fun, self-discovery and growth!

The stakes were high in the DBC last Thursday night as representatives from each of our school Houses gathered to contest for the Simon Curran Cup for Excellence in Public Speaking.

There are two awards and they both went to Armagh House!

Most Promising Speaker, awarded to Jaden Nyamusoro

Best Speaker Overall, went to Ramahl AhChee.

Rewriting the poem Dangerous Men, by Daragh Fleming (the focus of this year’s Headmaster’s Series), Ramahl talked about vulnerability as strength, reflecting how he saw his own cohort: “My boys’ vulnerability is strength. They don’t let their crest separate them from the rest”.

He also made a powerful point about being accepted at Dilworth: “It doesn’t matter who you are or what you look like”.

Many congratulations to Jaden and Ramahl and to all our 2026 Senior Speech participants. And a huge thank you to Luke Stopford, Dilworth Old Boy, for judging.

What a wonderful end to Tongan Language Week! 🇹🇴

The week's celebrations wrapped up at today's Senior Campus assembly with a beautiful performance from our Tongan Group and Epsom Girls Grammar School.

It has been a truly special week, marked by vibrant displays around campus, performances, exceptional food, and a special chapel service.

Auckland’s beautiful Holy Trinity Cathedral was filled with the sounds of the KBB Music Festival last week - the largest secondary-school instrumental music festival in New Zealand.

Among more than 50 schools that took part, a large contingent of Dilworth students took part - in fact, almost a third of our school! That’s 147 students across three Concert Bands and three Chamber Orchestras; our young men playing everything from wind and brass to string and percussion instruments.

The hard work and dedication of our students and staff paid off – it was Dilworth's most successful KBB ever!

At this morning’s assembly, musician and prefect Le Bron Ah Young told the school about the stunning results: “We are thrilled to share that this was the best ever KBB for Dilworth, with a gold award, three silvers and two bronze, and that our Senior Concert Band got the chance to play at the Gala Concert.”

Huge congratulations to all our musicians and to our instrumental music staff, Mr Rhys Kingaby, Mr David Stent and Mr Chris Moore.

The KBB is an absolute highlight for our musicians and an amazing growth experience. But there are many more reasons behind the effort Dilworth is putting into its Instrumental Music Programme, led by Rhys Kingaby, Dilworth’s Director of Instrumental Music, and it is reaping dividends for students.

Fortissimo is Dilworth's premier choir, an auditioned group of 39 singers. Through authentic and skilful performances of Pasifika music and a diverse range of choral art music, the choir built a reputation as one of the best male choirs in New Zealand.
