Meet two Skills Trades Training team members who spend their spare time volunteering as firefighters.
Shane's path began with a life-changing accident. Nearly five years on, he's gone from rural firefighter at Lake Rotoiti to Crew Leader, now working alongside career crews with the Nelson composite brigade and as a GoodSAM responder. By day, he's spent over two years with Skills Trades Training, now in the Assessment Manager role.
"After my recovery, I wanted to give back and support others in the same way people supported me." β Shane
Trent has volunteered with Wallacetown Volunteer Fire Brigade in Southland for 14 years, including five as a career firefighter. Now the brigade's training officer, he helps members work towards new ranks. By day, he's a Training Advisor at Skills Trades Training, helping electrical apprentices complete their qualifications for four years.
"I see it as the responsibility of the willing and able to step up and help others who need it." β Trent
NgΔ mihi, Shane and Trent, for everything you do both at work and on the job.
