On Tuesday the 20th of June, the U55kg rugby team competed at the Auckland Rugby Championships held at Marist Rugby Club grounds in Panmure.
Our first pool game against Henderson was an emphatic win. Our team was switched on right from the start and won the game 43 - 0.
Next we faced De La Salle College. After scoring a couple of quick tries, De La Salle hit back with a couple of their own. Our team quickly took control again winning 31-10.
Our third pool game was against an aggressive team from Otahuhu Intermediate. Our team quickly dominated all facets of the game and won convincingly 30-0.
Playing for 1st or 2nd in the last game of the day we faced a well drilled team from Sacred Heart. Our team was determined to win after losing to them in the final last year. In the first half, we scored a try first before they hit back with a try and conversion. At half time, Sacred Heart were leading 7-5. In the second half, our team showed tremendous resilience and resolve to fight back and eventually win the final 15-7.
Throughout the tournament, our team played skilful and disciplined rugby. Thank you to the parents who supported us and a special thanks to Gary Raffaelli for assisting with the coaching on the day.

On Thursday 15th of June our boys SEZ hockey competed in a tournament against 5 other schools. It was a lovely day and the weather was perfect. The team started off with a win against BBI (2-1) and went on to win against Sancta Maria (2-0). After a lunch break they won their first game back and lost the next to St Kents. They then won the final game, resulting in the team coming in first place overall. They played well as a team and should be proud of what they have achieved. Good work boys!

Kia ora Parents & Whānau

We were notified today that the Direction to close the school has been lifted by the Secretary of Education, as the roading situation has improved and the weather is settling. As Somerville Intermediate has not been impacted by the flooding, school will start for all students tomorrow, Thursday 2 February.

Students should now know the classroom to which they have been assigned. The map of the school is displayed below as a reference once again. Students need to go directly to their classroom when they arrive.

School buses will be operating as usual. As mentioned yesterday, the traffic will be at a premium. Please allow enough time to arrive at school no later than 8.20 am. Please park in one of the many safe areas around the school. The loop road is reserved for school buses and shuttles. The back gate will be open.

Parents and whānau are welcome to walk their child to their classroom. Unless there is a prior arrangement, we request that parents head off when the bell goes at 8.30 am. Please ensure that your child is familiar with the arrangements at the end of the day. A bus meeting will be held during the day for all those who are travelling or intend to travel by bus.

Please ensure your child has all the things they require, including their stationery, sports uniform and device that should be fully charged.

If your whānau has been affected and your child’s attendance at school will be impacted, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing [email protected].

Please remember that If COVID is present in your home, your child needs to do a rapid antigen test (RAT) daily for 5 days. If your child is negative each morning, they can continue to attend school. If your child tests positive, they must remain at home for 7 days. Once again, please notify us if your child will be absent.

We are very excited that school can commence tomorrow. We look forward to meeting all parents and whānau at the Meet the Teacher Evening next week (Thursday 9 February).
