First Class Honours - following the Tokonaki of Pelenaise ʻIsoa, Maamaloa at Kolisi Kuini Sālote in 1945.

Growing up, my fa'ē , ‘Ailine would speak about her older sister Pelenaise’s efforts. She would recall memories of Pelenaise studying by moonlight as they did not have electricity, long hours of preparation and a determination anchored in purpose.

Those memories stayed with me. They became quiet lessons about commitment, sacrifice and the value of education carried as koloa for future generations.

‘Ailine would also speak about her sister, Melaea, whose role of support and house work carried equal value within that folau. While she studied, Melaea helped hold the home together. That tauhi, sacrifice and quiet contribution mattered as deeply as the achievement itself. Leadership and success are carried as kāinga. They are nurtured through, prayers and service of others. 🌺

Today, after receiving a letter from AUT University confirming I will graduate with a with , I found myself thinking deeply about the women who travelled before us and prepared the pathway with courage, discipline and faith.

When we know our fatongia, ʻofa moves us toward tukupā to tauhi. That is the legacy these, fa'ē, women carried. A commitment to care, support and prepare the pathway for those to come. 🌙🌊

May we continue to tauhi the names, memories and sacrifices of our ngaahi fa'ē who carried learning with dignity, humility and love for their kāinga.
