Today we had a PJ Party in honour of Jammies in June.

There are approximately 125,000 children who live in Counties Manukau; 48% of these children live in areas of socio-economic deprivation. Every year this number grows and the Middlemore Foundation plays its part to help keep children warm by collecting PJs for children from 0-18 years of age.

Thank you to all our families who donated.

This is but one of the ways in which we give back to our community and encourage empathy and manakitanga with our tamariki.

Yesterday we received our very own letter from The Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern!

At the start of this year we learnt all about My Community, My Home and I. As part of this project our tamariki learnt about our Prime Minister. They drew pictures and wrote a letter which we sent through to her. We thanked her for everything she is doing for our country.
We are very happy to say that we have had a response. I know this will make our tamariki very happy and we are incredibly proud of the effort that they had put in!

2 April 2022 was International Children's Book Day. We decided to celebrate this occasion by having a Book Character Dress up day here at CBPK.

Books and storytelling help children to:
-learn pre-reading skills such as how to hold a book and to read from left to right
-learn new words and meanings
-develop imagination
-develop their interests
-understand different social situations
-understand that print carries the meaning of the story
-share experiences with other children and adults.

Reading, writing, listening and speaking support learning across all the strands of Te Whāriki. Sharing and creating stories about the things they know and do support children’s sense of belonging and values the experiences and knowledge they bring. Books and storytelling also provide great opportunities for children to talk about emotions. Children’s well-being grows when they feel listened to and valued. Books give children the chance to explore their world. In particular, children's developing literacy is supported in the Communication strand, which looks at children developing verbal and non-verbal communication skills, experiencing the stories and symbols of their own and other cultures, and finding ways of being creative and expressive.

5-13 March 2022 we celebrated NZAEE Seaweek here at Cockle Bay Private Kindergarten. We had lots of fun connecting with our oceans and learning more about how our whānau enjoy their time at the beach. We ended it off with a dress up day, making sea creatures out of recyclables.
