It is a private kindergarten located behind St Lukes Church and Community Centre at 130 Remuera Road

, Remuera. Children can be enrolled at Little Treehouse Kindergarten from the age of two years. We welcome visitors to the kindergarten and encourage you to book a time to come and view the kindergarten environment, meet the teaching team and see the kindergarten in action. Teaching practices reflect current theories of learning and development and teachers participate in ongoing professional development to ensure that we deliver a consistently high quality of care and education to achieve the best learning outcomes for our children. We believe children learn and develop best when they experience an environment where they are nurtured, encouraged and ‘listened’ to by teachers who are responsive to the child’s enquiring mind and provoke an interest in the world around them.

OUR CHICK EGGS HAVE ARRIVED
Our chick eggs have arrived at kindy this morning and our tamariki are VERY excited and have been asking lots and lots of questions. We have seen pictures of what the chicks currently look like inside their egg, learnt that they are likely to hatch in two more sleeps and found out that they have an 'egg tooth' at their end of their beak that will help them to break their eggs when they are ready to hatch. We have learnt how to look after them and keep them safe and warm. We are discussing baby chick names already with Fluffy being a strong preference at the moment.

SPENDING TIME IN THE GARDEN
Today we spent the morning in the sunshine planting some strawberry plants and tending to our vegetable garden before planting some flower plants to refresh our flower beds ready for springtime. As soon as the garden gloves come out there is always a crowd of children eager to help Miss Curtis with planting and looking after our garden.

FOOD OF THE MONTH - CAULIFLOWER
A few months ago we planted broccoli and cauliflower and have been patiently waiting for them to grow, caring for them by protecting them from the birds and giving them water. We harvested the broccoli yesterday, however the cauliflower is not quite ready so we purchased some from the supermarket to carry out some baking today. Miss Curtis and the children chopped up all the cauliflower and then they blitzed it in the food processor to make Cauliflower pizza bases. They then added tomato paste and cheese to make “Cheesy Cauliflower Pizza”.

Charlie said, “Cauliflower has Vitamin K and helps our body”, and Ethan added “And it helps our wounds”. All the children noted that it smelt stronger when it was all whizzed up.

Miss Curtis roasted some cauliflower too so we all enjoyed a slice of cheesy cauliflower pizza and some roast cauliflower before lunch today.

EXPLORING MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS
We have been continuing exploring the concept of measurement with the children with further baking experiences where ingredience are measured, exploring the use of different tools to measure things with the tape measure being a favourite as children have walked around kindy measuring anything that takes their interest. Our Wise Owls have measured themselves in one of our Wise Owls sessions, talkng about who was tallest and who was the shortest.

We have also been exploring the concept of weight using scales to determine what objects were heavier or lighter, making predictions on what the children thought first. We soon discovered that something that is bigger does not mean it will be heavier.

This week we have been exploring shapes, enjoying finding different shapes through shape hunts, drawing and tracing shapes and exploring what we can make using different shaped resources.

CULTURAL DAY 2026
Today we celebrated the rich cultural diversity that makes our kindergarten community so special by coming together as a community to celebrate our cultures. Aotearoa New Zealand is home to people from many different cultures sharing different languages and traditions. Experiences like our Cultural Day help children develop a sense of belonging while learning to appreciate and respect the unique identities of others.

Throughout the day, we shared and explored different cultures through traditional clothing, art and crafts, books, games, music, dance and stories. We shared a delicious morning tea with foods from around the world. Mrs Hesh invited Nizam to kindy to make us some Sri Lankan hoppers, a popular Sri Lankan cuisine traditionally eaten at breakfast.

These shared experiences encourage children to be curious, respectful and inclusive as they learn about the many ways people live, celebrate and connect with one another. It is also an opportunity to demonstrate one of our kindy values, Ako, and learn from one another while building an understanding that every culture has something valuable to share and that our differences make our community stronger.

CULTURAL DAY
Our annual Cultural Day is on Wednesday 12th August and families are invited to join us for the morning from 9-11am. Children who do not attend kindy on a Wednesday can join us with a parent or caregiver too. Children are encouraged to come to kindy dressed in something that reflects their culture and are welcome to bring along something to share such as a cultural food to share for morning tea, a book, song, game or something of cultural significance to your family. We look forward to celebrating our cultures together as a kindergarten community.
