Rongomai School’s LOCKDOWN DRILL is now over.

Your child is safe.

A notice will be sent home to explain today’s drill.

For any further concerns or questions please feel free to contact your child’s teacher.

Therefore, please refrain from calling the school or coming onsite as we will not be able to respond to you during the exercise.

Please check our school website or page for all updates. We will also send updates via skool loop as well.

I was informed this morning of an incident in our wider community before school. Two students were approached by adults in a car and were asked to get in. One of the adults told the students they were a teacher at a nearby school. The students did not engage and are safe.

Police have been notified, and schools in the area are aware.

All students are safe. We are sharing this to keep our community informed and to reinforce simple safety messages with our tamariki:

Do not go with anyone you do not know, even if they say they are from a school

Stay with others when travelling to and from school

Tell a trusted adult straight away if something does not feel right

We will continue to keep a close watch around our gates at drop-off and pick-up times, including along our walking bus routes.

Important Notice: School Closure this Monday

Kia ora whānau,
It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of a former staff member Dr Henare King (Matua Henare) who remained a very dear friend to our school. During his time with us, he worked closely with our staff and Board members, leaving a lasting legacy through his dedication to our tamariki and our community.

To allow our staff and Board to pay their respects and stand alongside their whānau, school will be closed for instruction this coming Monday.

Key Information
- Date of Closure: Monday 4 May, 2026
- Reason: Staff and Board attendance at the funeral service.
- School Reopens: Tuesday 5 May, 2026

We understand that unexpected closures can be an inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate your flexibility and support. This decision was made to honour a person who gave so much of their heart to Rongomai School and to allow our staff the space to grieve and remember a cherished colleague.

We encourage you to use this time to connect with your own whānau. When we return on Tuesday, we will continue to provide a supportive and stable environment for all our students.
