The amazing weather gave our tamariki a wonderful opportunity to explore our carpentry tools and experience real woodworking.
They helped the kaiako set up the table and tools on a hard surface and remembered to keep their shoes on for safety. Throughout the experience, tamariki shared tools respectfully and were happy to take turns with one another.
Carpentry is highly valued in New Zealand ECE because it supports children’s learning and development in many different ways:
Physical Development – Enhances fine and gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, strength, and muscle control.
Cognitive Skills – Encourages mathematical and scientific thinking through concepts such as measurement, size, balance, force, and angles.
Confidence and Responsibility – Giving children opportunities to use real, age-appropriate tools helps build self-esteem while teaching them how to manage safety, assess risks, and show respect for equipment and others.

On Wednesday, the teachers took tamariki down to the park. As it was 'road safety week' we talked about the safety of walking past driveways, crossing the road and not walking near the road. The tamariki also had loads of fun at the park, having morning tea and we were so lucky having such a beautiful warm day.

Today’s messy play turned into something magical ✨
The tamariki had an absolute blast exploring gloop — squishing, pouring, stretching, and watching it magically change between a liquid and a solid right in their hands. The giggles, the curiosity, and the pure joy were everywhere!
But beyond the fun, there was so much learning happening too:
🧠 Exploring science concepts like textures, states of matter, and cause & effect
🤲 Strengthening fine motor skills through squeezing, scooping, and mixing
💬 Building language skills as they described how it felt and what they noticed
👫 Encouraging teamwork, sharing, and imaginative play
Sometimes the messiest activities bring the richest learning experiences 💛

Library fun 📚✨
Our little learners had such a special time visiting the library—listening to a story read by the librarian, exploring books, and finishing with a stamp (definitely a highlight!).
Moments like these help build a love for reading from the very start 💙
