Today Rihari and Ryco (CMKA Ahi programme leaders) came to our kindergarten, they shared te reo Maori with us through a fun bread-making experience. Our tamariki learned the names of ingredients and tools, listened carefully, and followed instructions as they took turns helping to make bread.
Rihari encouraged our tamariki to repeat new words, building their confidence with te reo Maori. During mat time, we also learned a new kai karakia and a song. Later, they proudly shared and ate the bread they made.
Through this shared learning experience our tamariki developed language skills through learning new te reo Maori words, songs, and karakia. Out tamariki worked together and took turns and this was a great meaningful experience for them.

This week at Roscommon Kindergarten, we had a wonderful time celebrating Sea Life Week. Through out the whole week, the tamariki were provided with meaningful learning experiences to learn and explore the ocean and the creatures living in it. We explored what belongs in the ocean and talked about ways on how we can protect our seas so these sea creatures will continue to thrive.
The tamariki enjoyed painting the ocean. They also worked together in creating a big and colourful collage of the ocean with sea creatures in it. The tamariki made their jelly fish and fish that we also put on display. These experiences encouraged and enhanced children's imagination and creativity while helping deepen their understanding of the marine environment.
It has been a wonderful week of creativity, exploration and learning about the ocean. It has been a great week of learning how we can help in protecting our ocean and the living things in it.

Waitangi Celebration
To honour Waitangi Day, our tamariki took part in a variety of meaningful leanring experiences that helped them to enhance their knowledge and connect to the history, culture and values of Aoteroa New Zealand.
The tamariki explored their creativity through weaving some papers, making and decorating their own feathers using colourful pens to make the kindergarten korowai, and creating arts and crafts inspired by Maori symbols.
We also revisited our kindergarten treaty, which a good way for the tamariki to understand what it means to have a treaty. Through this, the tamariki were reminded of the values we uphold here at Roscommon Kindergarten.
We are proud of how our tamariki embraced the spirit of Waitangi Day.

Wrapping Up Our Summer Fun Activities
Our learning community wrapped up the month of January with a series of fun learning experiences. We did a Movie Day where the tamariki and the kaiako dressed up as their favourite movie characters, bringing lots of excitement and creativity to the day.
We also enjoyed the learning and playing under the sun through messy play and water play experiences. The tamariki had so much fun splashing, exploring water, and blowing bubbles into the air.
In celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year, we made some delicious vegetarian dumplings together. The tamariki learned how to prepare the dumplings and happily shared and enjoyed them with friends.
What a wonderful start to the year it has been! We look forward to many more fun, meaningful and enriching learning experiences in the months ahead.

Week 2 Fun Learning Experiences
On our second week back in the kindergarten, the tamariki once again engaged in a variety of fun learning experiences. We welcome back some of our tamariki after their holiday.
The rain did not stop us from having fun here at Roscommon Kindergarten. Last Tuesday, we had our Teddy Bear Picnic. Since it was raining, we decided to have our picnic inside! The tamariki brought their cuddly bears and shared a delicious morning tea. The tamariki enjoyed sharing the kai with their bear.
Thursday was Sports Day. The kaiako organised a variety of games for the tamariki. We started with their favourite game, basketball! Right after that, we had our sack race. It was not only the tamariki who enjoyed it but also the teachers! Our last game was the throwing of bean bags. Everyone tried their best in throwing their bean bags in the hole. It was a joy to see the tamariki having so much fun with these learning experiences.
We planned the messy and water play today. The weather cooperated and the tamariki engaged in water play, bubble play, and painting with corn flour and dye on the concrete. What a fun Friday! The tamariki were treated with ice blocks to end a fun and wonderful week!

A Happy Start to our Kindergarten Year!
It has been wonderful to welcome back our tamariki and whanau to kindergarten after the holiday break. What a fantastic first week it has been! Our first week back at the kindergarten has been filled with lots of fun and enjoyable learning experiences for the Tamariki.
On our first day back, we visited our garden and discovered that the carrots were ready to be harvested. The Tamariki showed interest in digging up - and look at what we collected! It was a lovely hands-on experience for everyone!
The Tamariki also enjoyed some messy play experiences including bubble play. We were lucky to have a windy day, which made the bubbles more exciting and the experience extra special.
One of the highlights of our first week was cooking pikelets together. The Tamariki gathered around the table and helped the teachers prepare the mixture by pouring in the flour, sugar and milk. Everyone took turns in mixing the ingredients and watched as Preet cooked the pikelets in the pan. Look at what we made. The tamariki enjoyed eating their pikelets, made even more delicious with a spread of jam. What a treat!
