Room 6 (Y3) has had a busy few weeks exploring the exciting inquiry topic of ‘Food Science’. While making popcorn and jelly we have investigated the science behind these food changes, learned how to measure the correct amounts of ingredients and written step by step instructions on how to make these delicious snacks.

At lunchtime today Janella, Bella, Anna and Serah from Room 28 (Yr 5) worked together and completed a 100 piece World map puzzle. Great teamwork girls!

Room 2 (Year 3) loves learning about science! They are asking questions and describing the changes of state (solid/liquid/gas) they observe while making jelly, watching milk curdle, and observing how Coke and Mentos react. They also had a go at measuring and making their own bubble mixture and playdough.

Room 13 (Year 3) has continued their sourdough recipes with sourdough pasta today! We used a dough we had prepared yesterday and left it to rise overnight. We used our teamwork skills to flatten our dough and then cut it into noodles using a pasta machine. It was so much fun and the noodles were almost as long as us!

Room 4 (Yr 3) explored measurement by using scales to weigh, compare, and estimate the mass of different objects around the classroom. We learned that 1,000 grams equals 1 kilogram, and we also discovered that some countries, such as America, use pounds and ounces as units of measurement. Throughout this activity, we demonstrated all of our learning dispositions by sharing our ideas, listening carefully to others, waiting respectfully for our turn, working together as a team, solving problems, and persevering until we achieved success.

Rm 26 (Yr 5) had an amazing hands-on space lesson. They built tiny constellations using marshmallows and toothpicks, matched them to real star patterns, and shared how their models represented the night sky. They were super excited during the whole session. Well done Rm 26!

Room 13 (Year 3) has been full of busy bakers today. We prepared some dough we will use to make pasta tomorrow. We also baked a scrumptious sourdough loaf from the dough we prepared yesterday. Last but not least we witnessed how we could turn liquid into solids with movement by shaking up our very own butter to have with our bread. A very delicious day today!

Room 28 (Yr 5) were detectives today, on the hunt for perpendicular lines in our classroom. We learnt that perpendicular means 2 lines that meet and create a right angle (90°). So we used our "Perpendicular Line Finder" and went looking for examples around our room. We found so many! When we discovered one, we placed our "Perpendicular Line Finder" on it and claimed it as our own, which gave us naming rights!

Now that Room 13's (Year 3) sourdough starters are bubbly and active we were able to start baking with them. One group made waffles which were light, fluffy and delicious! Another group prepared the dough for our sourdough loaf we will bake tomorrow. The rest of the class investigated how yeast works and was able to use yeast, warm water and sugar to inflate a balloon. We have been having a blast using our measurement and science skills and most importantly testing out taste buds!

Room 41 were true investigators last week as we explored states of matter and chemical reactions. We worked together mixing and stirring ingredients, and best of all, enjoyed the tasty end results, jelly and bread!
