.. Friends.. I have some very sad news to relate.
As many of you will know, my wife Maria and I set out on a 6 week trip to Greece, to visit family there and to have a holiday. 5 days after arrival after having had a swim at a favourite beach of hers,she was returning from bathing when she had a major cerebral event. She could not be resuscitated and slipped into a deep coma from which she never recovered. Yesterday, 3 August she passed away, at around 2pm in the ICU unit of Samos hospital. The funeral will be today in the Ag. Irini church and graveyard near Ano Vathi, at 6pm Greek time. She will lie close to her Mum and Dad and sister Angela..
The support we have received from Maria’s family and friends and the Greek Community of Auckland has been incredible, as it has been from family of mine in NZ and overseas. The boys are here with me and that is just wonderful.
Maria was the best ever wife, mother, grandmother and was a phenomenal dancer, cook and she had a lovely singing voice. She worked tirelessly for the Greek Community of Auckland and leaves a big hole there. She was also a refined and highly accomplished English language teacher.
