New research in Brain Science tells us that the most powerful learning occurs when we use different areas of the brain. When students work with symbols, such as numbers, they are using a different area of the brain than when they work with visual and spatial information, such as an array of dots.

Thank you so much for the webinar today- I learnt SO much and feel a lot more confident about teaching fractions now.I so wish that I had signed up to do all of the webinars this week! So very valuable.
Before moving to NZ last year I taught in international IB schools with a very similar inquiry approach to teaching and learning. It felt so good to be learning in that way again- truly an inspiration!
Along with teaching, I am a visual thinker and graphic recorder. I took these notes during the workshop today. I hope you like them!

For patients with existing type 2 diabetes, medication requirements can be significantly reduced or in some cases, eliminated, by switching to a plant-based or predominantly plant-based diet, with abundant vegetables, whole grains and fruits.

In addition to improved glycemic control, plant-based dietary patterns also reduce the risk of complications commonly associated with type 2 diabetes such as cardiovascular disease and kidney disease.

The “Getting Ready for 2024: Mathematics Webinars for New Teachers” (22-26 Jan) consists of webinars that create confidence in mathematics content and pedagogy. These webinars are designed for teachers who are new to NZ classroom teaching, those who are entering the teaching practice after a long time or for anyone who wants to refresh their mathematical knowledge
The teachers will be supported with
• Weaving effective maths pedagogy where the focus is on developing a positive classroom culture, student discourse and inquiry into maths teaching and learning.

• Developing understanding in teaching mathematics content knowledge of additive thinking, multiplicative thinking and proportional thinking.

• Resources: providing challenging tasks and appropriate use of materials to teach these tasks. Teachers will also get the powerpoint to refer back at any time.
Teachers will be equipped with interesting tasks to start their year 2024!! Let us all enjoy teaching mathematics and be ready!!
