Edens' Garden
Edens' Garden is a property on ten acres in Pukekohe East that teaches and practises sustainability. We are located in the beautiful Franklin county.
In Pukekohe we breed winning racehorses, we race fast cars and we are the food basket of New Zealand. We grow most of New Zealands food. Our property is located in the middle of the growing region. http://www.franklincountry.com/
Five blueberries planted, french lavender that has self seeded planted (enough to make a 4 metre hedge!) and caulis and beetroot in and to finish off - a cup of 'BE GORGEOUS' tea - just like the garden always is.
Last week we put in a Guava hedge and this week we are about to put in our feijoas. If you have ever wondered what blackbirds, thrushs and mynas do in your garden - one of their jobs is pollinating feijoas!
This project has always been about building community, sharing resources and helping one another and we are doing this so well. Two of us share childcare and help each other around work commitments, and this is working well because time is given equally and no one takes advantage of anothers good nature. This has to be the case in a community for it to be successful - people have to be team players Most recently a group of neighbours have also got together to buy farm equipment - a ride on mower being the first thing on the list with one neighbours commitment being time to fix and maintain it because he's an Engineer. People who live on land don't all need ride ons that are infrequently used. That is consumerism gone mad.
Pumpkins and zucchinis are in full force, about 20 bok choy and just put in two different types of melon. We also have our first ever artichoke.

Enjoying eating home grown tomatoes that have not been artificially ripened with ethylene gas. They also are no where to be found in the American supermarket that is typically home to 47,000 foods. This is our first patch of kumara in for the season and our designed flag to secure allodial title over the land.

Swallows have nested in our carport. We have been watching the Mum and Dad actively feeding their three hungry babies for a couple of weeks. This morning they flew the nest and have been circling round the carport, twittering away as they do and dive bombing the cats.

This is what we call a salad bar...

Max after his first day on the job drafting sheep - the rams are off to market. Not too sure if he will ever pull it off as a full time profession but he did learn the meaning of "Get in behind" today. His genes let him down a bit though - he was learning from a master sheepdog - beardie cross with huntaway and heading dog in her. A+ for effort though - we have one very tired dog.
9 lambs - 4 sets of twins. The top paddock sounds like a nursery.
