Te Whānau Puawai – Room 19

Te Whānau Puawai in Room 3 are settling beautifully into their new classroom and are becoming familiar with our new learning routines, including our different group times. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and growing confidence as they settle into their learning environment.

We are also very excited to reintroduce tablets as part of our reading rotations. The students are enjoying this new way of learning, and over the next few weeks, tablets will begin to play an increasingly important role across other areas of our learning too.

This week we celebrated Tongan language week and together with room 4 and 5 we hosted the school assembly. Our tamariki all demonstrated so much confidence as they celebrated through language and dance.

We are looking forward to seeing how our tamariki continue to grow, learn and thrive together!

Malo lava le galuega! We are super proud of Iunivesite who competed in the Franklin Pasifika Speech Competition today.

For the second year running, Iuni placed 1st in the Samoan speech section of the competition.

Congratulations Iuni, you worked hard and presented beautifully. How great that your Whaanau and friends were with you to support. 👏👏👏

A reminder that Pukekohe North School will be closed for learners next Friday, while our teaching team comes together for a Teacher Only Day.

Please make alternative arrangements for your children on Friday 28 August, as there will be no school for learners that day.

Our focus for the day is Mathematics, building our shared understanding of the refreshed Maths curriculum and strengthening the way we teach maths across our kura.

This is important mahi as we continue to build consistent, high-quality teaching and learning for all our tamariki.

Learners will return to school on Monday 31st August.

We wanted to make you aware that a student reported a concerning interaction with an unknown adult in a vehicle while walking to school this morning.

The student is safe, whaanau have been informed, and Police have been contacted.

As a precaution, we ask everyone to remain vigilant around our local streets and to have a calm conversation with tamariki about personal safety when travelling to and from school.

Please remind tamariki to:
-stay with others where possible
-move away from any person or vehicle that makes them feel uncomfortable
-go to a safe adult or familiar place
-tell a trusted adult straight away if something does not feel right.

Please avoid speculation or sharing identifying details.
If you see anything concerning, contact Police directly and let the school know.

Welcome to Week 5! This week we are proud to celebrate Tonga Language Week and the 2026 theme, Ko 'etau hiva, ko e fe'unu mahu'inga ia ki he mo'ui 'a e Tonga, Our music is a vital strand of our Tongan culture.

Across the week, our tamariki will have opportunities to celebrate Tongan language, music and culture together. We love seeing the cultures, languages and identities of our learners celebrated across our kura.

Week 5 at PNS is a really settled week, with lots of focus and concentration in classrooms. Learning takes practice, and practice makes learning permanent. It means giving things a go, making mistakes, trying again and sticking with it when something feels tricky. These are the habits that help our tamariki grow as readers, writers, mathematicians, thinkers and problem-solvers. Good learning habits grow when tamariki listen carefully, ask questions and take pride in their mahi. When we keep practising, even the hard parts become stepping stones to success.

Week 5 Reminders
Talk as a whānau about why learning matters. What are you practising at the moment? What did you once find hard, but can now do because you kept going? How do mistakes help us learn? When tamariki come to kura every day and on time, they get the practice, support and encouragement they need to keep growing.

Every day matters. Every lesson counts.
